2A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL October 7, 2015 Local farm to host pumpkin patch gathering Ruby and Amber's Organic Oasis, located at 75976 Booth Kelly Camp Road southeast of Cottage Grove, announces that it will host a tour of its pumpkin patch featuring horse- drawn wagon rides from noon to four p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11 and Sunday. Oct. 18. Weekday groups are also welcome, and those inter- ested are asked to contact the farm for scheduling at rubyandamber- farm@gmail.com. The cost is $10, which includes the wagon ride and a pumpkin. The farm can be reached at 541-510-2359. IN MEMORIAM Nell Pendleton Kazmierski 1920-2015 Nell Pendleton Kazmierski was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Pen- sacola, Fla. She passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, in Paris, Tex. Preceding her in death was daughter Marsha M. Pendleton and son Franklin N. Pendleton. Her surviving children are John M. Pendleton of Paris, Jeanell F. Clark of Cottage Grove, Ore. and Mar- jorie A. Card of Canandai- gua, N.Y. She has 17 grand- children, 36 great- g r a n d - children and many great-great grandchildren. A memorial will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, at City Life Church, (formerly Family Praise Center), 33133 Row River Road in Cottage Grove at 7 p.m. with fellowship following. Her spirit of adventure will be missed. James Louis Watson 1949-2015 James Louis Watson was born April 5, 1949 in Ogallala, Nebr. to Harriet and Kirk Wat- son. When he was around 10 years old they moved to Oregon, fi rst to Roseburg, then Cottage Grove. His dad was a baker in Nebraska and Oregon. Jim would help out at the bakery while he was in high school. Jim mar- ried Jo Kenyon and they had three children, Scott, Lisa and Greg. They later divorced. He served in the Navy on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War as an electronic technician. He also worked for the Forest Service, Saginaw Lam Plant, and for Lane County as a Design Engineer Tech II. On March 23, 1984 Jim mar- ried Christine (Hibbard) Even- son. They were long time members of the South Lane Assembly of God Church. He had a great love for the Lord and his fam- ily. For many years Jim shared his love for the Lord, the out- doors, and children by being a Royal Ranger Leader, which is a Christian based organization for young boys. He was an avid hunter and fi sherman and cher- ished the outdoors. Jim is survived by his wife, Christine, two sons, Scott Wat- son and Greg (Crystal) Watson, a daughter, Lisa (Justin) Hib- bard, two sisters, Diane and Rita, fi ve brothers, Bob, Larry, Elmer, Butch and Roy, and fi ve grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at Emerald Valley ban- quet room in Creswell. Memo- rial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove. Hoover Rhodes 1928-2015 Linda Sue Hughes, 76, of Lo- rane, Oregon passed away Sept. 28, 2015. She was born October 21, 1938 in Ke- arney, Nebr. to Dal- las C. and Sarah Irene (Overhiser) Keesaman. On April 12, 1958 in Cottage Grove, she and Vergil C. Hughes were married. Linda enjoyed crafts, poetry, cooking, baking, reading and spending time with her grand- kids and great grandkids. She is survived by her hus- band, three children, Grant T. Hughes of Lorane, Rick K. Hughes of Eugene and Jason C. Hughes of Lorane, fi ve grand- children and two great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her three siblings, Clifford Keesaman, Caroline I. Carreras and Dallas D. Keesaman. Hoover Rhodes, 87, of Yon- calla passed away Sept. 30, 2015. He was born April 8, 1928 in Murphy, N.C. to Roosevelt and Zonie (White) Rhodes. On May 10, 1954, he and Norma Lee Walls were married. Hoover worked as a logger and timber faller and enjoyed fi shing, hunting and camping. Survivors include six sons, Daniel (Patty) Rhodes of Yon- calla, Rex (Judy) Rhodes of La Pine, Greg Rhodes of Yoncalla, Audie (Sandy) Rhodes of Hills- boro, Paul (Lisa) Rhodes of Cre- swell and Mark (Laura) Rhodes of Cottage Grove; a sister, Linda Woods of La Pine, two brothers, JB Rhodes and Cloyd Rhodes of Sweet Home, and 14 grandchil- dren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, daughter Dor- othy, and son Curtis. Linda Sue Hughes 1938-2015 Michael Adams Michael Adams, 74 of Cottage Grove, Oregon passed away October 1, 2015 of bone cancer. He was born September 20, 1941 to George and Marguerite (Ward) Adams in Antioch, California. Michael graduated high school in 1959 and then attended Diablo Valley College. He was honorably discharged from the Army in February 1966. Michael was employed at DuPont Chemical Plant in Antioch, CA and retired from there in 1991. After retirement he and his wife moved to Oregon. He was fortunate enough to retire at the age of 50 and was able to spend the next 20 years working in his garden, playing golf, hunting, fi shing, and crabbing in Winchester Bay. Michael belonged to the Elks Club #1904 and Middlefi eld Men’s Golf club where he put on fundraisers every year called the “Larry, Curly and Mo Community Sharing Benefi t.” He belonged to the Center for Spiritual Living. Michael made friends of everyone he met from the grocery story, to the library, to the bank. He was truly respected and loved by all that knew him and will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful friend to all and a doting and loving husband to his wife of 33 years. Michael is survived by his wife Sandy Adams; Sister Patricia Lawerence; niece Leslie Lagerstrom, nephew Robert Rip, three step children, John Anderson, Laura Bozemen, Michael (liz) Anderson; two grandsons, Brandon Bozeman and Jeremiah Anderson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Allen. Memorial contributions can be made to Cascade Hospice, 2650 Suzanne Way Suite 200, Eugene, OR 97408. A celebration of life will be held at the Elks Lodge #1904, Cottage Grove, on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 1:00 PM. There will be a potluck (fi nger foods) following. Ruby Sara Hewlett 1921-2015 Ruby Sara Hewlett, 94, of Cottage Grove passed away Sept. 26, 2015. She was born April 30, 1921 in New- port, Ky. to Thomas M o o d y Carson and Emilia (Otereo). She grad- uated high school at the Blanche Kellogg Institute in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1939. In 1941 in Puerto Rico, she and Alfred G. Hewlett II were married. Ruby worked as a psychiatric nurse’s technician at Atascadero State Hospital and retired as a nurse’s aide at Good Samaritan in Eugene. The Bible was her biggest interest, and she enjoyed using stickers and putting them on cards for special occasions. She loved taking photos and putting them into albums. Ruby was an excellent cook and loved having family around and spending time with them. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Cottage Grove. Survivors include her chil- dren, Honey Hewlett of Cibolo, Tex., Muriel Reynolds of Cot- tage Grove and Alfred Hewlett III of Cottage Grove, ten grand- children, 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchil- dren. A memorial service will be held Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of fl owers, memorial contribu- tions may be donated to the Church of the Nazarene, 152 S. John Robert Miller 1955-2015 John Miller was born in Eugene, Oregon on November 14, 1955 to Harold and Marjorie Miller. On September 27, John passed away in the comfort of his home aft er a two year battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme, continuing to inspire all that cared for him with his incredible courage, determination and dignity. Passing on the night of the total lunar eclipse was perfectly suited for a man who loved astronomy. John was a cross country athlete at North Eugene High School, Lane Community College & University of Oregon, and was an All American runner two years, placing 19 th in the nation his sophomore year of college. John was an avid Prefontaine fan and sculpted a bronze statue in honor of Steve, which still resides today on Pre’s rock. He also loved hiking, canoeing, hunting, bird watching and spending time with his close friends and family. John worked in construction, was a glove recycling entrepreneur and most recently worked as a millwright and fabricator for 31 years between States Industries, Weyerhaeuser Company, and SierraPine, later returning to Weyerhaeuser before his disability brought on his early retirement in 2013. John was a talented and creative artist who had the fl air to create beautiful wood and metal structures, inventions and gift s. During John’s college years, he met then married Amy Sunderland, later divorcing in 1993. He was then introduced to Rochelle Th oms, and the two were married on the beach of Maui, Hawaii in 1996. Th ey made their home in Creswell and enjoyed hosting theme parties with family, traveling together and were later blessed with a son, Dayne, in 1998, who brought great joy and pride to their lives by watching him grow and attending all his soccer, basketball and golfi ng events. John is survived by both his wife and son, his brother Don Miller of Eugene, sisters Sherry Nelson of Vancouver and Juanita Conover of Springfi eld. A celebration of life open house will be held October 23 at Th e Country Inn in Eugene from 2-5 pm. John was a loving husband, father, brother and good friend, whose quick wit and humor will be missed by so many friends and family.
