Lions host Harrier's Challenge in last home meet of the season With close to 500 athletes competing, Cottage Grove's Harrier's Challenge is another wild success with great weather BY SAM WRIGHT The Cottage Grove Sentinel Saturday, Sept. 19’s Three- Course Challenge was a pre- lude to the excitement of the Harrier’s Challenge in Cot- tage Grove four days later. At the Three Course Chal- lenge, freshman Tyra Gordon shone in the 5,000-meter hard course with a time of 30 minutes fl at, followed by ju- nior Allie Harris with a time of 30:55 and senior Kale'a Galbreath with the same time of 30:55. For the boys, the top runners were fresh- man Konrad Raum with an outstanding time of 21:46 in the 5,000-meter hard course, and senior Ryan Barger with a time of 24:38. The Lions cross country team then looked toward Schwarz Park and Dorena Lake on Wednesday, Sept. 23 for the Harrier’s challenge, another 5,000-meter race. The event saw the atten- dance of close to 500 athletes and included a new course for the middle school 3,000- meter race. The 5,000-meter race for the varsity squads also saw some course im- provements. Raum led the way again in this race, fi nishing with a time of 19:01 and placing 16th overall. He was fol- lowed by Barger with a time of 20:54, and then senior Connor Howard with 21:30 and junior Max Gause with 23:23. For the girls it was the freshman Gordon again, who completed the race with a time of 25:52 and placing 33rd overall for the girls.
