2A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL August 19, 2015 z å IN MEMORIAM Dallas Shepherd 1929-2015 Dallas “Ole” Shepherd, 85, of Cottage Grove passed away Aug. 6, 2015. He was born Oct. 8, 1929 in Claremont, S.D. to Lowell and Grace (My- ers) Shep- herd. He mar- ried Joanne Campbell. They later divorced. Dallas worked in sawmills and for the Forest Service. He enjoyed going for rides, walk- ing, dancing, fi shing, listening to country music and visiting with family and friends. He kept an immaculate yard. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles and Moose Lodges and donated to South Lane County Fire and Rescue and the Cottage Grove Police Department. Survivors include two sons, Duane (Candy) Shepherd of Cot- tage Grove and Boyd Shepherd of Cottage Grove, four daugh- ters, Cynthia Ferren of Cottage Grove, Debbie Shepherd of Cot- tage Grove, Tina Davis of Phoe- nix, Ariz. and Kimberly Celli of Santa Clara, Calif., a brother, Ike Shepherd of Cottage Grove, a sister, Margie Atkins of Red- ding, Calif., 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Shepherd in 1967 and a great-grandson, Jordan Siese-Shepherd. A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Grove Community Church in Cottage Grove. A pri- vate family inurnment will take place at Lane Memorial Gar- dens in Eugene. Mona Grace Coonrod 1932-2015 Mona Grace Coonrod, 82, of Cottage Grove passed away Aug. 7, 2015 from complica- tions from an auto accident. Mona was born Nov. 7, 1932 in Mon- mouth, Ore. to John and Rosa Estel- la (Barber) Pitzer. She graduated from Dal- las High School with the Class of 1950. On Nov. 17, 1950 in Dallas, Ore., she married Robert “Tab” Talmage Coonrod. He preceded her in death in 1997. Mona was a tax consultant for H&R Block for more than 45 years and a bookkeeper for Jim’s Tire Factory. She loved baking and cook- ing and was an avid reader. She volunteered at South Lane Family Relief Nursery, with the SMART reading program and for the AARP tax preparation program. Mona was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #3473 and the London Grange #937. She is survived by four daugh- ters, Kathy June Waddoups (Blaine) of Chehalis, Wash., Debra Kay Wiskow (Dean) of Cottage Grove, Emma Rose Campbell (Robert) of Culver, Ore., and Hazel Ilene Burris of Buffalo, Mo., a son, Dan Owen Coonrod (companion, Pam) of Cottage Grove, two brothers, Raymond T. Pitzer (Linda) of South Beach, Ore., and Jack W. Pitzer (Jeanne) of Seattle, Wash., a sister, Sharon J. Coo- per (Gene) of Cottage Grove, 13 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 755 N. River Rd., in Cottage Grove. Robert Fournier 1953-2015 Robert “Neil” Fournier, 61, of Cottage Grove passed away Aug. 10, 2015. He was born Oct. 13, 1953 at the Cottage Grove Hos- pital to Bob and Betty (Stevenson) F o u r n i e r. He attend- ed Cottage Grove High School and did drywall in the Cottage Grove area for many years and was a crane op- erator for Farwest Steel in Eu- gene. On June 29, 1974 in Cottage Grove, he and Molly Miller were married. He enjoyed music, reading and watching the University of Oregon Ducks. He loved spend- ing time with his children and grandchildren. He was a mem- ber of the Elks Lodge #1904 Survivors include his wife, his mother, two daughters, Shelly (Chris) Quest of Eugene and Tra- ci Fournier (Robert Carlson) of Eugene, two sons, David (Sarah) Fournier of Cottage Grove and Kyle (Cassie) Fournier of Cot- tage Grove, four siblings, Gary (Joyce) Fournier of Salem, Bri- an (Deanna) Fournier of Cottage Grove, Linda (Bruce) Copeland of Eugene and Nadine (Mike) Fleck of Cottage Grove, and six grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at the Cottage Grove Elks Lodge at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015. Arrangements under the care of Smith-Lund- Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove. Jonathan Michael Gottlieb 1976-2015 Jonathan "Jon" Michael Got- tlieb, 38, passed away Aug. 11, 2015. He was born Sept. 10, 1976 in Melbourne, Australia to Lawrence and Cheryl (Jucksch) Gottlieb. Jon grad- uated from Cottage Grove High School and was man- ager at the Koffee Kup Restau- rant. On June 9, 2007 in Cottage Grove, he and Lexie Hagen were married. Jon enjoyed watching foot- ball, basketball, baseball, spending time at the river, tak- ing vacations, playing with his wolves, Andre and Ciara, and most of all spending time with Kaela, his daughter. Survivors include his wife and daughter, Lexie Gottlieb and Kaela Gottlieb of Cot- tage Grove, his parents, Larry and Cheryl Gottlieb of Cottage Grove, two sisters, Patience Casey of Cottage Grove and Liz Thayer of Eugene, and two brothers, Andrew Gottlieb Cot- tage Grove and Michael Gott- lieb of Cottage Grove. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at the Koffee Kup Restaurant in Cottage Grove. Deborah Elvira DeLay Serpa 1962-2015 Deborah Elvira DeLay Serpa, 53, of Junction City, formerly of Cottage Grove, passed away Aug. 10, 2015 from renal fail- ure. She was born Feb. 8, 1962 in Eugene, Ore. to John and Barba- ra (Sledge) DeLay. She grad- uated from Cottage Grove High School and attended Lane Com- munity College. She married Rodney Serpa in Cottage Grove. Debbie enjoyed singing and sang at many weddings when she was younger in Cottage Grove. She also enjoyed gar- dening and spending time with her grandkids. Survivors include her partner, Michael Hatcher, a son, John Serpa of Eugene, three siblings, Steve of Tukwila, Wash., Pam of Delta, Utah and Patty of Spring- fi eld, Ore., and fi ve grandchil- dren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Serpa, parents, John and Barbara De- Lay, and brother, Rick DeLay. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Mary Ellen was born December 5, 1951 to Paul and Winnie Bean and grew up in Drain, OR. She graduated from North Douglas High School. Mary pursued a career in Nursing, initially inspired in the 3 rd grade by a fi lm about the hospital ship USS Hope. She received her Associate’s degree of Nursing from Mt Hood Community College and a Bachelor’s degree of Nursing from the University of Portland. Fifteen years of her career were spent at McKenzie Willamette Hospital. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, friend and wife. She enjoyed all animals and in particular her beloved cats. Mary is survived by her son, Jonathan of Eugene, OR; daughter Sarah of Olympia, WA her brothers, Larry (Marilyn) Bean of Cheyenne, WY; Richard (Betty) of Las Vegas,, NV; Doug of Havre, MT; and four grandchildren, Riley, Breseis, Declan and Emmett. She is preceded in death by her son Matthew and her parents. A remembrance will take place on August 23 rd at 12:00pm at Willamalane Park. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary’s life. In lieu of fl owers, please donate to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Richard Dale Grace August 19, 1938 - July 29, 2015 Richard Dale Grace, age 76 of Creswell, OR passed away on July 29th, 2015. He was born on August 19, 1938 in Placerville, California to Glenn and Jean (Th ornton) Grace of San Jose, CA. His siblings are Gerald Grace and Glenda Grace. Richard graduated from Yuba City High School. He married Socorro Segovia on October 20, 1962 in San Jose, CA and was married for 52 years. Richard was certifi ed in Locksmith and Knife/Saw Sharpening from Foley-Belsaw School. He worked at Weyerhauser in Cottage Grove, OR and as a Custodian/Bus Driver for Berryessa and Evergreen School Districts in San Jose, CA and South Lane School District in Cottage Grove, OR. Owned and operated Grace Co. Saw & Supply in Cottage Grove, OR and worked as an independent contractor for the Register-Guard newspaper in Eugene, OR. He loved to fi sh, hunt, camp and the outdoors. He also loved to cook, barbeque, play the steel guitar and attend Eugene Emeralds baseball games. Richard is survived by his wife, Socorro Grace of Cottage Grove, OR. Daughter Valerie Frasier and her husband Jay Frasier of Creswell, OR. Grandsons Joe Grace of Th urston, Oregon, Ben Hull of Creswell, OR, Caleb Frasier of Creswell, OR and Zach Frasier of Troutdale, OR and one Granddaughter, Melanie Hull of Portland OR and 4 great-grandchildren.
