2B COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL July 1, 2015 SCORES Continued from 1B Week 2 SCORES Standings Dragon Ocean pitched a shutout the rest of the way. Goalie Aislinn Mirsh came up with some crit- ical saves to keep the Squirrels from cutting into the lead. However, Dragon Ocean’s offense didn’t miss a beat either. Leo Gomez, Kyle Feherty and Kyle Helsol each scored second-half goals to extend the lead over the Squirrels. “Today we had really good communication, passing and ball movement,” said Helsol. “Last week we weren’t as good at those things and it was a much closer game. (Dragon Ocean defeated Brad’s Big Time 3-2.)” With the victory, Ocean Dragon moved into sec- ond in the SCORES league standings. Rally, which defeated House 6-2, remains in fi rst place. “I don’t want to sound cocky, but I like our chanc- es of coming out on top,” said Helsol. “Rally and Brad’s Big Time will be challenging opponents, but we have a lot of experience on our team.” Team W L T Pts. Each division had the crowd on its feet with nail- biting action for pretty much ev- ery lap. The event was present- ed by the folks at Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. In the fi rst 10 laps of the IMCA Modifi ed feature, an epic battle was taking place between Kinzer Cox and Kreg Britton. The two Cottage Grove natives exchanged the lead on several occasions, with Britton running the high side and Cox work- ing the bottom. Cox secured the lead on lap nine and kept in front of all challengers for his third victory of the year. Another couple of Cottage Grove drivers battled hard in the Street Stock main event. Jeff Casto and Evan Britton waged a battle for the lead that would last pretty much the entire race. But Britton eventually gained the upper hand and fi nished in the winner’s circle for the fi rst time in 2015. Capturing the lead on lap fi ve, Springfi eld’s K.C. Scott was in prime form in the Quality RV Repair Hornets. Scott would hold back all challengers to win his fi rst race of the year.
