Cottage Grove prepares another packed schedule for 2015
Blazing hot temperatures
over the weekend and into
this week signaled the un-
offi cial start of the summer
of 2015, and as always, the
season brings a near-non-
stop slate of activities in
Cottage Grove. New offer-
ings and old favorites fi ll
the slate this year — here
are some early highlights:
informed that water levels will
be adequate for the triathlon,
despite concerns due to a dry
winter and spring.
Again this year, the Tri at the
Grove will take place on one of
the busiest days of the Cottage
Grove calendar; July 26 also
features the Downtown Chili
Cook-off and Rock, Roll and
Rumble car show. More infor-
mation on the triathlon can be
found at www.triatthegrove.

Market moves
Blair Bronson of Best in the
West Events, which purchased
the Tri at the Grove Triathlon
from dark:30 Sports following
the 2014 Tri, said registration
numbers are “looking good” for
this year’s event, scheduled for
Saturday, July 25 at Lakeside
Park at Cottage Grove Lake.
“We’re looking at participa-
tion numbers along the lines of
last year’s event,” Bronson said,
adding that the Tri should bring
“professionals from all over” to
compete here.
The Triathlon features a sprint
and Olympic-distance race fea-
turing a swim in Cottage Grove
Lake, cycling in the country-
side and a run along the lake’s
Weyerhaeuser road. Bronson
said he’s spoken with the Army
Corps of Engineers, which man-
ages CG Lake, and has been
After moving Cottage Grove’s
Concerts in the Park series to
Bohemia Park in 2014, organiz-
ers struggled to accommodate
and properly locate the Cottage
Grove Growers’ Market, which
previously co-existed with the
concerts at Coiner Park. Scott
Burgwin, manager of the Coast
Fork Farm Stand adjacent to the
park, said a Wednesday Farm-
ers’ Market will feature the
wares of local farmers there on
Wednesdays this summer from
3-6 p.m. In addition, Travis
Palmer, Executive Director of
the Cottage Grove Chamber of
Commerce, said the Chamber
will be relocating the vendors
for the concerts to the hill atop
the Bohemia Park amphitheater.
“There were quite a few com-
plaints that the vendors weren’t
connected very well with the
audience,” Palmer said. “We’re
going to put the vendors at the
top of the hill facing the audi-
ence, and they’ll be able to drive
in from the parking lot to unload
their vehicles. This should help
the vendors have a more pleas-
ant experience at the concerts.”
Palmer said the Chamber has
called on Mujahid Abdallah of
Aprovecho to serve as manager
of the vendors in the park. The
Concerts in the Park series be-
gins June 17 at 6:30 p.m. with
the classic covers of Bradley
Shepherd’s Perfect Flavor and
continues until Sept. 9.
Wings and
Wheels
Jim Wright Memorial Field
in Cottage Grove will serve as
the site for the second-annual
Wings & Wheels event on Sat-
urday, June 27 from 11 a.m. to
4 p.m.
Aircraft and autos, both mod-
ern and vintage, will be on dis-
play for one day only at this
family-friendly event. Food
vendors will be also on site.
Admission is $5 for adults,
with children 16 and under ad-
mitted free. All paid admissions
come with ballots for our new
“People’s Choice” awards for
favorite aircraft and car/truck.
Restorations in progress at
the Oregon Aviation Historical
Society include the 1931 Great
Lakes 2T-1A by barnstormer
Tex Rankin, the 1931 Spring-
fi eld Cadet, designed and built
in Springfi eld, Oregon, and the
“Wimpy,” a Les Long-Swede
Ralston aircraft with a long Or-
egon history. These planes will
all be open to view at the event,
as will the Oregon Aviation His-
tory Center.

Gold Rush/Dash
Two new events will fi nd their
way into the calendar this year
during another busy weekend in
Cottage Grove. The ever-popu-
lar Bohemia Mining Days Fes-
tival is scheduled for July 16-19
this year, and the theme will be
continued with the Gold Rush
5K Run/Walk, a twilight event
that aims to showcase Cottage
Grove beginning at 9 p.m. on
Friday, July 17. The race starts
and ends at the Brewstation on
Sixth St. Also new this year will
be the Gold Dash, a 500-meter
run for youths that will take
place just prior to the Grand
Miners Parade on Saturday, July
18 (the parade begins at 10 p.m.)
More information and registra-
tion for the 5K, which costs $30
with a race shirt or $20 without,
