COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL June 10, 2015 Summer youth sports camp guide Calendar June 15-18 Boys Basketball 15-18 Girls Basketball 22 Junior Golf (runs for six weeks) 22-26, '9 to 5' Soccer July 13-17, Cheerleading August 10-13, Kids Football 10-14, Tennis 12-14, Volleyball Girls Basketball* The annual Lion girls’ basket- ball will also be held June 15- 18 at the high school. The girls’ session will run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. During the three-hour ses- sions, campers will go through movement and shooting drills; learn individual moves for of- fense and defense; and practice those skills in team games. The price for the four-day camp is $40 and includes a camp T-shirt. Campers can also receive a free lunch provided by Food for Lane County starting at noon in front of the high school every day of the camp. Girls should come dressed in comfortable workout clothing, socks and court shoes and bring a bottled water or sport drink. New varsity coach Kevin Yoss will lead the camp, along with the coaching staff of Alys- sa Gould, Jeremy Young and members of the varsity bas- ketball team. For information or questions call coach Yoss at 541-954-1817. Golf Cottage Grove junior golf is beginning a new season of teaching youth the skills for playing golf. Six weeks of les- sons will be held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. beginning June 22. The lessons for boys and girls ages 9 to 14 and will cost $30. Soccer* The annual ‘9 to 5’ Cottage Grove soccer camp for boys and girls is slated for fi ve days, from June 22-26 at the Cottage Grove High School. The kindergarten through 4th grade ages will meet daily from 9 to noon. Grades 5-12 will be playing from 1-5 p.m. Grades are defi ned as the class the stu- dent will be in for the upcoming 2014-15 school year. The price is $50 for K-4 on or before June 10. After June 10 the cost is $55. The price is $65 for 5-12 on or before June 10 and $70 after June 10. Early registration will guarantee each camper a soccer ball and T- shirt. The camp will cover skill building: ball control, passing, shooting, trapping, juggling, dribbling, throw-ins, corner kicks, goalkeeping and offen- sive and defensive skills. The last day (Friday) will be “game day,” when the skills learned will be put to practice in games beginning at 9 a.m. The camp directors are boys varsity head coach Brian Fish, girls varsity head coach Vern Stewart, JV boys coach Jaime Urenda, JV girls coach JJ Net- thai, as well as long-time camp counselors Alex Zuniga and Cloie Fish. Kids should bring their own shorts and T-shirts, shinguards, cleats, water bottles and snacks. Breakfast and lunch through Food for Lane County will be available at 8 a.m. and noon. Cheerleading** The South Valley Athletics cheer camp for boys and girls entering grade 1-6 will be held July 13-17, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the SVA offi ce. Campers will also be walking in the Grand Miners Day Parade on Saturday, July 18. At the camp, kids will learn the basics: cheers, jumps, kicks and a dance. One’s child must be registered by June 26 to guar- antee a camp shirt. Registration is $40. Football* The annual kids’ football camp will be held August 10-13, from 6-8 p.m., at Cottage Grove High School. Before Aug. 1, the cost to register is $35. After Aug. 1 the cost is $45. During the two-hour ses- sions, campers will go through individual instruction, position development, fundamentals and group drills. Athletes should come wear- ing athletic shoes or cleats, and comfortable workout clothing. The high-school coaching staff and players will lead the camp. Volleyball** The South Valley Athletics volleyball camp for boys and girls entering grades 3-6 will be held Aug. 12-14, from 9 a.m. to noon at Lincoln Middle School.
