COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL May 27, 2015 3B Crockett sweeps Memorial Day Weekend doubleheader BY BEN DEATHERAGE Cottage Grove Speedway hosted the third stop of Western Sprint Tour, and on Sunday, May 24 — its second event of the weekend. Twenty-eight 360 Sprint Car teams representing the states of Or- egon, Washington and California were entered. In the main event, Enumclaw, Washington’s Henry Van Dam took the initial race lead and be- gan weaving through lapped traffi c when a lap- fi ve caution stalled the action. On the ensuing restart, Van Dam retained the lead but received considerable pressure from Medford chauffeur Roger Crockett. Crockett passed Van Dam in traffi c on lap 10. From there, Crockett pulled away from the fi eld. A red fl ag incident later in the race bunched the fi eld one last time, but several lapped cars allowed Crockett to cruise the rest of the distance to win the main event and his second straight WST tri- umph. Garen Linder of Central Point held on to second at the wire, while Van Dam was third. Puyallup, Washington’s Trey Starks fi nished fourth, and in fi fth was Salem pilot Kyle Miller. Henry Van Dam had the fast time of the night, while Trey Starks won the trophy dash. Heat win- ners were Chase Goetz out of Snohomish, Wash- ington, Crockett, Starks and Clarksburg, Califor- nia’s Justyn Cox. Roseburg driver Kyler Barraza won the consolation. The Western Sprint Tour will be off for the next month before gearing up for the 2015 Speedweek Northwest. The next event is the Speedweek open- er on Sunday, June 28 at Siskiyou Motor Speed- way in Yreka, California.
