2A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL April 29, 2015 BIRTHS IN MEMORIAM Millicent Joann Adams 1929-2015 Millicent (Millie) Joann Ad- ams entered into eternal rest Fri- day afternoon, April 24, 2015, in Safford, Arizona at home surrounded by grandchildren. Millicent was born in Shelby, Nebr. April 4, 1929, the daughter of Wilbur and Lucile (Par- sons) Ben- nett. She was the second child of four siblings and is survived by Jim Bennett of Napa, Calif., Mary McCullough of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Gary Bennett of Camano Island, Wash. and her children, Lorena Bilyeu of Cottage Grove, Pamela Welton of Cottage Grove and Millynda Garcia of Arizona. Millicent is preceded in death by her mother Lucile, father Wilbur, husband Bill and son William J. Adams. Millicent married William (Bill) R. Adams in 1957 and as she stated, never a dull moment after that. She moved to Sagi- naw in 1965 and with Bill raised their four children. Sixth Street, Cottage Grove Email: cgnews@cgsentinel.com Office phone: 942-3325 James Walter Brooks, 83, of Cottage Grove, Oregon, beloved husband of Cathy (Cathern Herndon) Brooks, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 26, 2015. Jim was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and raised in Coral Gabels, Florida where he met and married his sweetheart of more than 63 years. Th ey had two daughters there, and were then transferred to Orange County, California where they had three more daughters and a son. Jim served 22 years with the U.S. Marine Corp as an Aviation Engineer and Instructor. Jim served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars where he then retired in 1970 as an offi cer with the rank of Captain. Once retiring from the military, Jim and his family moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon where he managed the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program at Lane Community College for many years. Jim is survived by his wife Cathy, six children, Catherine, Sue, Th eresa, Michael, Mary and Patty, sixteen grandchildren, Nathan (who was tragically killed in 1995), Kristine, Ryan, Tyler, Tarah, Tawnie, Anthony, Shane, Jackie, Dana, Brooke, Blake, Courtney, Michael, Michelle, and Carly and seven great grandchildren, Alexis, Aiden, Davin, Olivia, Clyde, Tycho and baby boy Crow. A Rosary will be at 10:00am followed by a Funeral Mass & Reception at 10:30am on Th ursday, April 30, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1025 N 19th St, Cottage Grove, OR 97424. Interment will follow Funeral Mass & Reception at 2:00pm at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 220 Crest Dr, Eugene, OR 97405. On June 19, 1959 in Kings- burg, she and Kenneth R. Smith were married. Patty worked as a retail clerk and offi ce manager in the real estate business. She enjoyed fi shing and hunting trips with family when opportunities per- mitted. She loved helping her family however possible. Survivors include her hus- band of over 56 years, Kenneth R. Smith of Creswell, a son, Kenneth R. Smith, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Clovis, Calif. and a daughter, Shari Patrice and hus- band Dale Lefors of Fresno, Calif. Smith 1939-2015 Patricia A. “Patty” Smith, 75, passed away April 22, 2015 from congestive heart fail- ure and dia- betes. She was born Oct. 16, 1939 in Creswell to Harley and Marie (Scott) Sides. www.andreasons.com Cottage Grove has nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She spent most of her life as a domestic engineer and keeping Bill out of trouble. She moved to Arizona with her daughter just after Bill’s death in 2004. Millicent briefl y worked at Rockwell International with Bill. Millicent is a life member of the Order of Eastern Star at the Cottage Grove Lodge #51. She was born to Richard and Shirey (Morgan) Coomler on May 27, 1962 in Cottage Grove and had two sisters, Darla Compton of Springfi eld and Vicki Hill of Roseburg, and one brother and his wife, Douglas and Aga Coomler of Reno, who all survive her. She attended high school in Cottage Grove through her junior year and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1980. Her grandparents, Howard and Jeannette Coomler and Curtis and Judy Morgan, who had all lived in Cottage Grove for many years, had preceded her in death. She had worked for Elmer's Restaurant in Springfi eld as manager and also was the operator and manager of the concession restaurant and campground at Baker Bay Park at Dorena Lake for many years. She enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones, fi shing, sail boating, playing pool, cheering for the Oregon Duck games and had recently completed a triathlon. She was married to Russell Wood in 1980 and to Leonard McGehee in 1989. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Robert and Sarah Wood, Gregory and Darci Wood and their two children, Russell and Bailey of Cottage Grove, and by her daughter and her husband, Dalton and Shirey (McGehee) Armstrong of Springfi eld. She is also survived by her fi ancé, Darrell Massingale of Cottage Grove, her father, Richard Coomler of La Pine and her mother, Shirey Helsdon of La Pine. In addition, she has many friends and family who will miss her very much. A celebration of life will be held at the Cottage Grove Elks Lodge, 755 N. River Road, at 1 p.m. on May 2, 2015 for friends and family. A potluck will follow.
