2A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL February 25, 2015 IN MEMORIAM Marlece E. Arthur 1963-2015 Marlece E. Arthur, 51, of Cot- tage Grove passed away Feb. 18, 2015 from complications of cancer. She was born Feb. 26, 1963 in Cottage Grove to Raymond and Yvonna ( C h a ff e e ) Arthur. She received a bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration from Oregon State University. She was a manager for chiro- practic offi ces in Washington and later a customer service manager and buyer for Territo- rial Seed Company. Marlece was a Master Gar- dener and gourmet cook. She enjoyed quilting, the great out- doors, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She loved her nieces and neph- ews and was a favorite aunt to all, her dog, Sophie and her four kitties. Marlece is survived by her parents, Raymond and Yvonna Arthur of Cottage Grove; sis- ter Kimberly Masog (Louis) of Lebanon, Ore.; sister Renée Goodson (Kurt) of Corvallis, Ore. and brother Will Arthur (Maggie) of Cottage Grove. She was preceded in death by her niece, Brenna Goodson. A memorial service and re- ception will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, 123 S. 7th St., Cottage Grove, OR 97424. He received an honor- ary high school diploma from Elkton High School in 2014. He was a farmer in Roseburg, Burns, and Newberg, Ore. and in Tri-Cities, Wash. He was a mechanic at Umapine Chemical in Washington for six years and also was a logger in Southern Oregon. Card November 1951- February 2015 Ms. Card was born on 11/19/51 and passed away on 2/ 7/2015 aft er a short illness related to her battle with progressive supra- nuclear palsy(PSP). Deb was born in Th e Dalles and graduated from Th e Dalles High School in 1969. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon College of Education. While attend- ing college, Deb earned 10 varsity letters in basketball, fi eld hockey and soft ball. She graduated with honors and was named in the Who’s Who of American Colleges and Universi- ties. She went on to earn her Masters degree at OCE and the University of Oregon. Debbie taught at Lincoln Junior and Middle School for 30 years. She was a greatly respected teacher and coach. She loved her students and all aspects of teaching and oft en said that she was really lucky because she got to live her dream. Debbie is survived by her sisters, Kathy Emmons and her husband Terry, and Julie Saldivar and her husband Gene of Th e Dalles. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews, who love and will miss their “Auntie Deb”. She also leaves behind her god-daughter. Ella Frederick and her son, Ray, of Brooklyn NY, and many good friends from South Lane School in Cottage Grove and Eugene, and at Flag- stone Retirement Center, and the Springs at Mill Creek, both of Th e Dalles. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard R. Card, mother, Helen Card Reierson, and sister, Janice Card Carson. He enjoyed fi shing, deer hunt- ing, classical music, playing the guitar, and especially loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Old- Time Fiddlers Association. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gladys Hasbargen of Cottage Grove; three daughters — Susan (Ty) Oland of Yon- calla, Judith (Terry) Kleman of Ft. Jennings, Ohio, and Linda (Tom) Hering of Grafton, Wisc.; two sons — Mike Hasbargen of Dundee, Ore. and Lee Hasbar- gen (Laura Gattoni) of Morris, N.Y., two sisters, Mavis Buck of Kennewick, Wash. and Clara Starbuck of Kennewick, Wash, a brother, Gordon Hasbargen of W. Richland, Wash., 22 grand- children, and 32 great-grand- children with one on the way. A memorial and reception was held Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cot- tage Grove. Donald Wayne Work 1940-2015 Donald Wayne Work, 74, of Cottage Grove passed away Feb. 18, 2015. He was born Dec. 14, 1940 in Drain, Ore. to Vernon and Winfred (McDonald) Work. Don graduated from Drain High School with the class of 1959. In 1962 in Cottage Grove, he and Judith Ann DeYoung were married. He worked at Weyerhaeuser for 25 years, as an announcer for KNND Radio, and as a custodian at Lincoln Middle School. Th e students of Lincoln Middle School awarded "Grandpa Don" numerous trophies. He enjoyed fi shing in his younger days and also enjoyed working in his yard and woodworking. He loved talking to everyone he encountered and loved music. He is survived by his wife, Judith Work of Cottage Grove, a daughter, Tammera Gordineer of Eugene, two grandsons, Brandon Rhodes and Tylor Gordineer, one granddaughter, Sherry Gordineer, a brother, Leon Work, three sisters, Jeri Lawrence, Wanda Bellows and Ronda Alexander, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by four siblings. A memorial will be held Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. at Smith- Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, 123 S. 7th St., Cottage Grove. Caroline (Coop) Shultz September 13, 1926 ~ February 19, 2015 Caroline Coop Shultz of Creswell, Oregon, a descendent of one of Oregon’s pioneer families from 1843, died February 19, 2015. She was 88. She was born September 13, 1926 in Tillamook, Oregon. She grew up in Cottage Grove and worked in her father’s foundry making cores while attending Cottage Grove High School. She went off to Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. Aft er a year of college she went back to work at the foundry. Th ere she met Lowell Shultz and they married in Salem, Oregon on August 31, 1947. Th ey settled in Cottage Grove where Lowell was working at blacksmith shop. Th ey purchased their fi rst house in Springfi eld on Laura Street where they raised four children Marolyn, Dan, Lloyd and Chris to adulthood. Th ey purchased property between Pleasant Hill and Creswell, where they farmed, built a home, and then retired. Th ey were very active in the VFW in Creswell and the Community of Christ church in Cottage Grove. Sister Nora Treadwell, husband Lowell Shultz, children Sarah and Dan Shultz and Marolyn Simonsen preceded her in death. Caroline is survived by her brothers Vern, Duane and Dale Coop, son Lloyd, daughter Chris Lasley, grandchildren Doug and Stan Simonsen, Melissa Fery, Lehi and Joe Shultz, Carmie Meile, Erica Lasley, Katie Arnberg, and twelve great-grandchildren along with generations of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1P, Saturday, February 28 at Andreason’s Funeral home 320 N. 6th, Springfi eld, OR 541-485- 6659 Martha “Irene” Wilson Dec, 1931 – Feb., 2015 Martha “Irene” Wilson went to be with her Lord and savior February 12, 2015. Irene was born December 26, 1931 to Carl Hogsed and Bertha Coleman Hogsed in Murphy, North Carolina. She married Lytle (Buck) Wilson in March of 1947. Th ey moved to Oregon in 1956 where they raised their four sons. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and sketching wildlife, especially birds. She enjoyed her extended family with fi ft een grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a very good baker as evidenced by the weight gains of several family members. She is survived by her sons, Daniel Wilson, Steve Wilson, and Bob Wilson of Cottage Grove, OR, and Ed Wilson of Springfi eld, OR, her sisters, Carol Stalcup of Duluth, GA., and Barbara Maney of Ft. Walton Beach, FL., and a brother Doyle Hogsed of Simpsonville, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck and her parents, Carl and Bertha, and her sisters Billie Hogsed and Ruth McDougal and grandsons Scott Wilson and Joe Wilson.
