Each interview took between
fi ve to 10 minutes, and each
community volunteer conducted
about a half-dozen interviews,
with volunteers rotating in and
out throughout the morning.
Marc Bass, who also over-

Reaching Out Mentoring pro-
gram, said the program to give
sophomores a taste of the world
of job interviews has been bring-
ing students and business lead-
ers together for about four years
now. Bass said students look
forward to (and often, dread)
the interviews. He often chooses
volunteers who have conducted
interviews with students the pre-
vious year, he said, to gauge the
differences in their answers and
performances from year to year.
One such repeat volunteer,
Brad Cohen of Brad’s Cottage
Grove Chevrolet, said he’s nev-
er been more impressed with the
quality of interviews and inter-
viewees than he was this year.

The Cottage Grove Sentinel
ophomores at Cottage
Grove High School put
their skills to the test Friday
morning with a round of mock
interviews conducted by mem-
bers of the local business com-
munity.
Students left class and headed
to the CGHS library in small
groups Friday. There, they were
assigned to a representative from
a local business, government or
nonprofi t organization. After the
appropriate greeting, the student
presented a resume outlining
their skills and experience. A
few of the typical questions that
would be featured in most any
job interview were then asked,
and the volunteer used a score
sheet to gauge the student in
three areas — the greeting and
handshake and whether the stu-
dent was appropriately dressed
for the interview; the substance
of the interview and student's

empty bags and (miraculously)
made Mr. Smith's head shrink!
Students are eligible to attend
good behavior activities if they
don't have a referral or multiple
detentions. At this event LMS
had an amazing 92 percent of its
students attend.

served as an upgrade. The tech-
nology team will continue to put
