Fruit Inspector Gives Oood Advice to
Fruit Growers.
“ A good many fruit growers do not
pay sufficient attention to polleuiea
tion,” says C. E. Stewart. Lane county
fruit inspector, “ and that accounts tor
frequent shortages of certain crops, ea
peeially cherries and pears."
Some pears are self-sterile and others
are not, the inspector says, but he doe#
not know the cause of it. On that sc
count, he says, it would be better when
setting out a pear orchard to set out at
least two varieties iu the same tract so
that there will be proper pollenitation.
“ It is the same way with cherries, “
said Inspector Stewart. “ The Koval
Auues and all other sweet cherries need

Mr. Stewart said that at Alvadore
and around Junction City the peach crop
will be much better this year than in
other parts of the county. One reason
for this is that last year's crop in those
localities was light while in other parts

short crop usually follows a heavy one
and vice versa. There are several hun­
dred acres of peach trees in bearing in
