Keeney County Assessor Rests on His Record I regret that my opponent thought it necessary in his announcement to re sort to insinuations against my integrity and ability, and the manner in which he drags Sheriff Parker in and uses him as a shield behind which to fight, is nothing short o f an outrage. He would have it appear that Mr. Parker had joined with him in opposing my candidacy, when the truth is, so Mr. Parker states, my opponent nor no oth er person was authorized to quote him as making such a statement as pub lished. The facts are, Mr. Parker has no adequate means o f knowing the rela tive cost o f collecting taxes as between tne old way and the present system, for he has just commenced for the first time the collection by tbe new system, and even when the year is closed, he can only approximate the difference, i f any, fo r the reason that the tax col lecting department is not wholly sep arated from the other departments o f the office, but in the Assessor’s o ffice the relative eoet o f the two way* o f aseeseing the county and preparing the assessment and tax rolls, can be deter mined, and the result stands emphatic ally in favor o f the geographical by several hundred dollars. Mr. Parker is the first tax collector to attempt to collect taxes as contem plated by the new system. He has as sembled the taxpayers’ descriptions on one statement when possible to do so, and, from all indications, the taxpay ers are generally satisfied with the re sults. It w ill probably be as predicted by his letter which he sent out with tho tax statements, from which I quote the follow ing; “ I believe with the co-operation of yourself and other taxpayers, this new system will be a decided improvement over the old method and greatly lessen the cost o f making the collections.” M y opponent may go on and attack me and my administration i f he chooses. He has served about the same length o f time that I have served as Assessor. He has a record. I have a record. I submit mine as my bid for re-election. Pd. adv. BEN. F.
