Lawson, on East State Street, was quietly solemnized by Kev. W. A. Elkins, o f I-ehanon, who five years ago o fficiated at tLc marriage of Col. and Mrs. I-awson. Mr. M etealf has been a long friend i f the Lilly and I-awaon families and has frequently been entertained by the latter in Salem, but non? o f their friends, however, guessed o f the ro mance. Miss Lilly is a charming and beauti ful girl, her gracious manner and love ly voice winning for her a large circle o f friends. During the tw o years that she has made her home in Salem, with the Lawsons, she has become very p> p ular, being selected as Salem ’» last Cherry Fair (Queen. She has also sung frequently at both private and public affairs. Mr. M etcalf is well known through out the state, having for a number o f years been prominently identified with the Oregon Militia, at present being ordnance officer o f the Coast Artillery. The wedding, though quite simple, was most attractively planned, never theless. The bride was married in her travel ing suit, it being modishly fashioned of reseda green cloth, and worn with a smart Tipperary toque. She carried an 1 armful o f bride's roses. Following the breakfast the rouple left on a northbound train for a fort n ig h t’s honeymoon. They will be at home to friends in Cottage Grove after j February 15, where Mr. Metenlf has extensive nursery interests. Mr». N. E. Compton wn» hostess to the Social T w e lv e club la*t Thursday afternoon. A three course dinner was served at three o'clock. Place cards were heart shaped with all appropriate verse and name o f each guest on each. A flashlight picture was taken of the club during the afternoon by Mr Mon roe, photographer. , Mrs. Mabel Merri- man was an invited guest and all the members o f the elub were present.
