Cottage Grove is to have its first bet ter babies contest at the grange fair September 19. In line with the move ment all over the United States for bet ter babies, the grange fair committee has decided to abandon the old fash ioned baby show at which dimples, pink cheeks and soft hair were the prize win ning features and stage a eugenic con test of the kind made so popular every where through the efforts of the Wom an's Home Companion. In these con tests a competent physician examines each child entered for smoothness of skin, firmness of flesh, strength of bone, digestion, respiration, nervousness and degree of development in attention, ob servation, ete. Any child five years of age or under may be entered in this contest. Any parent who wishes to -li ter a child may obtain further partic ulars from the members of the commit tee, Mrs. J . R. Cooley, Mrs. George Hall. Mrs. Chas. Adams. Mrs. David Griggs and Mrs. B. R. Job. The prizes to be awarded include the medal for the grand champion girl, the medal for the grand champion boy, certificate for winner in each class and score card for each contestant.
