Displeased with the personnel o f the
Panama-Pacific exposition appointed a
year ago by Governor West, the legis­
lators have practically reached an
agreement whereby the governor will
have only a limited power in the ap­
pointment of the commission to dis­
burse the funds to be appropriated for
the exposition.
Particular exception has been taken
by the Lane county delegation to Lee
M. Travis o f Eugene, a democratic
war horse o f Lane county, and other
'egislators, upon learning the reasons
for the delegation being opposed to him
have joined with them in protesting.
Generally the legislators seem dissatis­
fied also with the other members and
have decided that the wisest course to
pursue ia to limit the governor’s ap­
pointing power. This will likely be
done by allowing the governor to ap-
point a certain nnmber, aud the firesi-
dent and the speaker o f the house to
appoint. The position is taken that
the commission is too important to
