Dr. Mabel Williams left Sunday for Flora, where she will practice this summer, Bayer, the Portland Commercial club representative, is expected here about May IS. Mrs. C. T. Hockett has to far re covered as to be able to leave the hospital, Tuesday, Mrs. L, B. Payne la reported some better Wednesday. She has boon very HI of erysipelas. The party was In the nature of a farewell to these popular young ladles before their departure for Portland. Mrs. O. L. Davis left for Spray, Ore., Sunday, going to bring her grandchildren back with her. Her daughter, Mrs. J, W. Roblson, died last winter leaving four children ranging In age from one to nine years, Mr. Roblson will come to this couuty also. Mrs, Sam E. Leffel and sister-in-law, Mrs. Z. E. Fanning, left Mon day for a summer's visit at their old homes in Indiana, the former at North Manchester and Mrs, Fanning at Akron. Mr. Fanning accompanied them as far as La Grande and Mr. Leffel to Wallowa. .James ' W. Rodgers left Monday for Hood River to attend the state camp of Modern Woodmen as dele gate from this county. Babbldge of Baker, Sun day school missionary of this synod, occupied the pulpit in the Presby terian church, morning and evening, Sunday. Mrs. S. H. Eddy, field worker for the Home and Foreign Missionary societies of the Methodist church. addressed en audience in the Meth odist church, Tuesday night, on mis sionary work. Mrs. Eddy spent eight years In India and Is convers ant with all phases of the work. Mrs. Eddy met a number of women Interested In missions, at a parlor meeting in the home of Mrs. C. W. Amey, Tuesday afternoon. A large audience heard W. P. Samms address on Unlversalism in the Christian church, Sunday after noon, and listened attentively to the arguments advanced showing it is both scriptural and reasonable that there is eternal punishment for the wicked. The Infinite has per mitted sorrow and anguish to exist In this world for thousands of years and it Is not unreasonable to be lieve He will allow punishment af ter death when he permits it in this life. If we believe the bible we must believe in future punishment. Fruit Promise At Grouse Is Grand FAIR GROUND RACE TRACK BEING LEVELED. Grouse, April 29 Farmers are Just finishing up the spring seeding. There is some complaint on the benches of the dry weather, as the small grain Is not showing as nice ly as was expected. . Gross In the canyons is the poorest that it has been for several years, owing to the continued dry weather. Fall wheat is looking unusually fine. There never has been a more promising prospect for a bountiful fruit crop; cherries, peaches, plums and prunes Just In full bloom and in fine condition; apple buds just show ing up nicely. There has been more sickness In the vicinity of Grouse than has been since the country has been settled, mostly la grippe and rheuma tism. There have been several calls for Dr. Gllmore of Flora. Mrs. M. A. Bosley has been very 111 for iBome time, but is up again. Mrs. W. E. Billings was down with fever 10 weeks and her many friends are pleased to learn! of her recovery. Marriage Licenses.
