Thomson sold 1100 tons to Henry & Co. of Port land. The sale was made, through the agency xf Frel Walker of this place and $6 per ton In the stack was- the price paid. SUCCESS ALTHOUGH ATTENDANCE WAS SMALL, WORK WAS EXCEL LENT SCHOOL NOTES. The summer normal conducted by County Superintendent J. C. Conloy and Prof. A. G. Smith closed last week prior to the examinations. It was a most successful normal. While the number en roiled was not so large an at some previous normals the quality of work was excellent and Superintendent Conley compliments the teachers highly on their appli cation, and says that the effects of tho uormal were evident 1m the high grade. of tho papers at the- ex amination. ELKS PLAN EXCURSION TO WALLOWA LAKE A proposition is under way for an excursion to the head of Wallowa Lake and the same is to be run under the joint auspices of the Baker City and La Grande lodges of Elks, sa.-s the La Grande Star. Local members ,oi of the order are at work on the prelim inary arrangements, if the plans at at present proposed mature the excur sion will be run the latter part of thit month and it will be arranged so that a whole day may be spent at the head of the lake. The arrangements in view are for an excursion that will eclipse anything i.i this line that has ever before been attempted in the eastern part of the state, and the full details of the same are to be announced at an early date Georgia Minstrels Here August 25th Has Band of 25 Pieqet and Travels In Their Own Private, Car Car of Special Scenery. The management of the opera house have bean' foit unate enough to secure, for the evening of Thursday, August 25, the famous Richards and Pringle's Georgia Minstrels, conced ed to be the leading negro minstrel organization of the world. This ster ling company la- now in it 30th year, and each year It has grown strong er and better. It carries a band of 25 pieces, said to be one of the very beat bands in the country. It trav els In- l-ta own special Pullman and carries an entire carload' of special scenery. Ordinarily it plays only the leading elites and only the leading ihaatres of those cltlea. it was possible to secure the com pany for Enterprise only because of the fact that It had an, open date on its hands, and then only because 'the management of the house was- wilt ing to give up practically the entire reeeiptB of the evening.
