ENTERPRISE AND WALLOWA COUNTY. Enterprise is the growing', lively county seat of Wallowa county. It is centrally situated in the county. It will draw from the vast land ad stocK and general agricultural and mineral resources of the county, sufficiently to become eventually a big inland county seat. It is a city of generous, busy hustlers. It is rapidly building up with stone buildings. In time it will be Known as the "Stone City." Millions of the best building stone, soft and free from lime and hardening on exposure, lie within half a dozen miles of Enterprise. There is water power enough flowing right through the center of the city to run all the spin dles and wheels of a great manufacturing center. Enterprise is surrounded by as fine wheat land as lies out of doors. It draws from some of the best fruit land in America. When you come west, come to Enterprise and loott Wallowa county over on the 0. R. & N. rail road from La Grande. News comes 'that the eon Albert of Harry Chenoweth passed away after am attack of scarlet fever. Mr. Chenoweth le a brother of Mrs. Maxwell of this olty. He had gone to Salem ,to undergo an operation, and while there his two older eons were with thera. Both contracted scarlet fever, which resulted In the death of Albert. At last accounts the son Harold, aged 7, was crit ically ill of the fever. Adbert was years of age. 8UMMER NORMAL. The annual Summer School for Teachers will be held In. the High School building at Enterprise, com mencing July 6, 1910, and contlnu ina five weeks. Bridle closed the largest real estate deal so far completed at Hood River by the purchase of 1000 acres of fruit land from the Stanley-Smith Lumber Company, for which it Is said they paid $100,000. ROSEBURG A Douglas County lo cality that promises to become one of the busiest and most prominent min ing camps of the West was the scene this week of a deal Involving the sum of $75,000. The property that changed hands consisted of the Biliken Trio of gold mining claims, situated on Canyon Creek, four miles south of Caoyonvlile. SALEM Professors Jackson and BIdwell, of the Oregon Agricultural College, after an examination of the Wallace orchard and others where the bud moth has been at work, state that the season In which the moth can do damage Is past for this year and that there is no danger of a spread of the pest . . ROSEBURG That some unknown person deliberately "raised" various items on the tax rolls In the Sheriff's office in Douglas County Is the start ling information contained in the re port of J. W, Ferguson and E. H. Col lins, who experted the county's finan cial records from , July 1, 1908, to March 1, 1910. SCAPPOOSE The Harry ' West herd of cattle, the finest herd of high, class Jerseys in the W.est. and one of the finest in the United States, has been sold at public sale. , The herd Included some fine animals from the East and some Imported direct from the Isle of Jersey. The sale Included about 80 animals and brought $16,850. LAFAYETTE Alfred Reed, a 9- year-old boy, lost his life by a shock ing accident here. The boy was hold ing a grazing horse, and thoughtless ly fastened the rope around his waist, when in some .manner the horse took fright and ran. ' When released the boy was dead, his back being broken, neck dislocated and head crushed. Kirk, prin cipal of the Salem High School, has written State Labor Commissioner Hoff, requesting at least a half dozen copies of Mr. Hoff's annual report for 1909. ALBANY One of the greatest con ventlons ever held In Albany will be that of the Oregon Threshers' Asso ciation on, June 2-3, for which elabor ate arrangements are now being made.
