HORSE SHOW NOTES.
H. E. Metz of Pendleton and Mordo
McDonald of Walla Walla were prom
inent horsemen present from a distance.
They said the show whs superb in
every respect and that Wallowa coun
ty had some of the beat horses of the
entire West. A representative of the
Pacific Rural Spirit was also enthusi
astic in his praise of all the stock. He
said Craig's bull, "Bright Promise, '
is the best on the Coast.
Metz & Sons were of right proud of
their exhibit. The' three Percherons
shown by Greer Bros, were from the
Metz stables. The 2-year old , shire
was sold to T. C. Bunnell for a price
said to be $2000. It is a fine colt.
"Acentus," better known as "Old
Blackie," is the daddy of them all.
He was 22 years old on the 4th of
March, and is still a fine stallion.
All the horses were thin as is best
just entering the season. Their bhdw
weights would run from 100 to 200
Dounds more than they tipped the beam
for Saturday.
George Craig had a fine show of hrs
thoroughbred Herefords, including five
cows, three yearlings and three calves
and his matchless 3-year-old bull,
"Bright Promise." The latter tipped
the scales at 1825 pounds and would
weigh a ton easily if fat.
Mordo McDonald had a fine herd of
Jerseys pn exhibition.
W. E. A. Watson bought the Shet
land pony for $75.
The parade was worth coming miles
to see, and everybody unites in saying
it beat all previous 9hows. The entire
affair was well managed by J. D.
Woodell.
S. L. Williams & Son exhibited a
splendid specimen of their throughbred
Shropshires.
