Members of Almota circle, Women
of Woodcraft, gave Mrs. Maggie H.
Bloom a delightful surprise Monday
night in honor of her birthday anni
versary. They went In a body from
the lodge hall, and at first pretended
to Mrs. Bloom they came down tc
escort her to lodge. It is needless
to say they spent a jolly evening
The visitors brought the refresh
ments of Ice cream and cake and
also a beautiful lodge emblem as a
reminder of the occasion.
The office of the Oregon Realty
and Investment company has been
moved Into the rooms occupied by
Judge O. M. Corklns, who has been
appointed attorney for the company
The latter Is composed of L.E. Jor
dan and Fred Wagner, two of tht
leading real estate men of the coun
ty, and who are equally successfu
In large and small deals. Only re
cently they were instrumental In get
ting Judge Bennett to invest in farm
property in the valley, and they have
brought thousands of dollars of out
side money Into the county.
Mrs. Maggie H. Bloom celebrated
her 50th birthday Saturday by enter
taining at dinner the ladles In town
who have also reached the half cen
tury mark. The table, which was
fairly loaded with good things to eat
was beautifully decorated with a mln
iature lake and pansles, and at each
plate was a small bouquet of pan
sles and a card with Prov. 31:15, the
blrth-date and present date. The
afternoon was pleasantly spent In
conversation. Those present whe
are at the half-century mark in
age were Mrs. W. R. Holmes'
Mrs. Frank Stubblefield, Mrs. Daniel
Weaver, Mrs. A. M. Wagner, Mrs
John Calvin and Mrs. Bloom. Others
present were Mrs. Jacob Wagner
Miss Alta Davis, Mr. Frank Stubble
field, Mrs. Alva Wagner, who lives
on the farm where Mrs. Bloom was
bo,-u In Iowa, and Mrs. L. F. Mc
Auuliy and Mrs. C. E. Vest.
An unusually large audience greet
ed the Streeter-Bryan company Sat
urday night in The Christian and
everyone speaks In highest terms ol
the manner In which it was pre
sented. Miss Bryan made an Ideal
Glory Quayle and her elegant im
ported gowns added much to her at
tractive beauty. Morrle B. Streetei
who has pleased Enterprise audi
ences for so many weeks as a come
dlan played an entirely different role
and the zealous character of John
Storm was brought out strongly. II
was the first heavy play the com
pany has given here but It proved
their right to be ranked as an "al
star" company. Miss Nettle Fostei.
was strong in the part of Mrs. Cal
lender and played with the natural
ness that always marks her work o
;eharacter delineation. Joy C. Gallo
way played the parts of Brother Paul
and Faro, the gambler, and wae
equally at home In both. His pretty
sister. Polly Love, waswell played b
Mrs. Pratt. Joe Slmklns made good
in three roles, Parson Quayle, Fathei
Lambaugh and the manager. Harry
J. Terry always plays with a sympa
thetic understanding and, whethei
hero or vlllian, loses his personality
In the character he Is presenting. As
Horatio Drake he was particularly
fine. Miss Hotel Roberts and Miss
Foster were charming as chorus girls
and the scene between them aftei
Glory 'a triumph was well done. One
of the best characters. In the play
was Lord Robert Ure as given by
Frank M. Weeks. Mr. Weeks Is ver
satile In his talents, and his makeups
are very good. He also took the part
of Lord Storm. Saturday night of
this week the bill Is Tbelma, a dra
matization of Marie Corelll's popular
story. The orchestra adds much to
jthe enjoyment of the plays with ex.
cellent music between acts.
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
ACCEPT TROY BRIDGE
Commissioners Lltch and Locke In
spected the Troy bridge July 22, and
after a careful examination accepter
the structure from the contractors
T. F. and Duane Lathrope. The
bridge was erectej. last winter but
the north abutment was left five feet
lower than the solid rock on which
the south end of the bridge rested.
The court ordered the north end
raised to a level with the top of the1
south abutment, and this the Lath-;
ropes have bee.i doing the lajt !
month.
They have done a good job, too,
the long span, 110 feet, the longest
In the county, being on a level and a
fairly good earth and rock approach
put In on the north. The north abut
ment is protected from high water
by rock rip-rapping, and ths bridgi
Is painted from end to end with coal
