SURFACING GANGS MOVED TO
ENTERPRISE PASSENGER

The construction work on the Wal
lowa county railroad as far as Los
tine Is completed and was turned over)

day. Engineer Brandon has moved
all five gangs of men, numbering In
all 220, to this side of Lostine and
will complete the work through to
Joseph within six weeks. A work ,
train brought a surfacing gang of ,
50 to Enterprise, Thursday; and a
gang of 30 went on to Joseph. Four
miles below town is a gang of 40,
while another gang of 30 was
brought up from below Sunday. The
fencing gang of 40 are four miles j
i ; s d3 of Lostine.
There Is no o.ficial authority for
the rumor that a passenger service!
will be started o.i May 24, although
the track Is In condition for fast
time so a train could easily make the
round trip In a day. It develops there
will be considerable opposition to a
strictly passenger train If It should
mean the cutting down of the freight
service to a trl-weekly ba3ls.

The Metzler-O'Brien case was one

of the climatic freaks, strangers are
coming to Tioy and vicinity looking
for homes and chances to speculate.

a home on the Little Salmon, a few
' miles above Troy. The writer has
been assured by a gentleman (a stock
holder) that a saw mill as well as a
grist mill will be located, In the near
future, right at Uie junction of the
i Little Salmon and the Grand Ronde
river at Troy, and will utilize a
-art of that immense water power
to run the two mills and will build
a big flume many miles long and the
power wl!l be tarried by wires to
u.er parts of Wa'.Iowa county, for
