MITCHELL FADING OUT
Eastern newspapers are pointing the finger of scorn
or derision a | Colonel Mitchell, because he id asking stiff
prices for bis public lectures on the American aircraft
situation, and yt reported to be refusing to speak unless
he gets the money laid down on thecounter.
We ought not to blame Mitchell for asking that his
lectures be recognized as of monetary value. Fer it takes
money for him to give them. It would be easily possible
for a club in Oklahoma to ask him to happen in to dinner^
from New York, and genially forget about the railroad
fare and the hotel bills unless Mitchell had a business
manager. One cannot be a nationwide influence without
expense money.
What Mitchell should have thought of was whether,
in the long run, he could be of greater service to his gov
ernment, as an aircraft • agitator; within the legitimate
limits of army discussion, rather than as a bolshevist
outsider. We predict that in six months Mitchell will He
forgotten as a force in public opinion and that {he goveroA
ment agencies will have gone ahead, accomplishing mitnv
of the things that he demanded, and showing that other
things he demanded are unnecessary or objectionable. As
a sacrifice to a cause, he will have the reward of self sat
isfaction. That he will get any permanent fanie, to say
nothing of money, is very doubtful.
A good many parents are worrying about the unregu
lated way in which their vising people behave at dunces,
where there is often no supervision by older persons.
Chaldrons have gone out of date in many circles,
The women in some places are meeting this situation
by planning carefully controlled assemblies, the same to
be in charge of some competent instructor in dancing,
who will regulate any of tlie vouug jtcople who seem dis
posed to behave in an undesirable way. Young folks may
tUttk they would not have a gootltMuo at such u dunce.
but it really cart be made pleasanter for them.
The selfishness often shown by the boys in choosing
their partners makes an unregulated dance very unsatis
factory for many of the girls, but if the affair is control
led by some tactful instructor, tlie whole crowd will have
a better time.
A group of ney cottages will greatly enhance the
value and beauty of Li thia Park and tlie auto camp.
Ifare’s hoping the improvement plans aie successful be
fore pie-first of June.
. - It now seems practically certain that* Ashland will
soon have a golf course second to rione in the nortiiwèst.
Thù will be another attraction for auto tourists the year
From present indications, the land settlement work
Jackson county promises to pay rich dividends before
S close, of the current year.

FIXING THE BLAME FOB FIRES
The disposition to regard fires as the business of
