Let it be said to the credit of
Miss Grace Chamberlain Dipt
she is, above all, a dellghtf
entertaining speaker.
At
chamber of commerce flo:
luncheon at the Lithla Sprl
hotel today noon she dellg
her hearers with an int
resume of her recent trip
Boston, Washingtbn and otb
eastern points, where she viali
childhood friends after an
sence of several years.
Several 'times she conv
her hearers with laughter
she told of some of her expedi
ences enroute to Boston by w^y
of the Manama canal, and afte>
her arrival in the east.
The Panama trip, she said» Is
especially popular with thb meh,
as the ship’s bar Is open fall
blast shortly after the veeefcl
gets outside the legal limit,
the disgusting scenes
the ship because of this
to the bar were enough to br!
bring
a blush of shame to the U s
of real*Americans.
In Boston these days a peg-
son must watch her step if afee
is to keep out of the way of t |e
hurried rush of traffic.
"It’s
a race from one corner to th«
next,” she said, “and in keeping
up with the pace I acquired
considerable agility which I had
lost in Ashland.”
Following her trip to Boston,
Miss Chamberlain went to Wash
ington where she represented
Oregon at the national conven
tion of the Federated Women’s
clubs.
"It was my privilege to shake
hands with President Coolidge,”
she said. “Although my meet
ing with our president was but
for a brief moment, I could look
into his face and picture him
as a keen, witty, dry New Eng
lander. He is a true Yankee iu
every sense of the word; an
honest, God-fearing man.”
Miss Chamberlain said that
she found herself becoming an
ardent Oregon booster almost
before she knew It. The Boston
climate, she said, was bad, and
for that reason she praised Ore
gon in highest terms.
As «
remit, many of her friends said
they were coming out here this
summer.
It was announced that J. A.
Churchill, newly appointed presi
dent of the Southern Oregon
state normal school, will be the
chief speaker ¡u, the fiorum
luncheon next Tuesday noon.
