The retaining of Superintendent Briscoe for another term of two years is a fitting recognition of his ability in school work. From other sources it was ! learned th a t Stackelbeck spent a strenuous fortnight in the State of New Mexico, pouring over official j records th a t disclosed the fact th a t Fall had paid ten years de linquent taxes shortly after the aw arding of the leases to Sinclair, and th a t extensive improvements had been started about the same time on F a ll’s ranch property, which for years had been consid ered in a “deplorably run-down condition.” The Denver newspaper rep o rt er, it was said, traveled from one end of the state to the other in vestigating F a ll’s affairs; he talked w’ith form er mining asso ciates of Fall; spent many nights in the cactus-infested desert searching out cowmen who were acquainted with F a ll’s career; in terviewed form er members of the trrito rial governm ent of New Mex ico who knew Fall as a district territorial judge under appoint m ent of form er President Grover Cleveland; Stackelbeck obtained intim ate details of F a ll’s work In the constitutional convention that preceded the acceptance of New Mexico into complete statehood in the Union, and he learned of the form er Cabinet mem ber’s activi ties as a state Senator and later as United States Senataor from New Mexico.
