Mrs. Margaret Cros-by died at the resi dence of J. N. Laws, 4'W Commercial street, at 1:31 yesterday afternoon of heart failure, ag'd T'J years. Mrs. Crosby was born In Philadelphia In IMS and came to this city ten years ago, whr she has since resided. She leaves a daughter re siding In Philadelphia, and Mrs. Laws and H. T. Crosby, of this city. M. '. Crosby, who had served as mayor of thish city and who died t wo years ago, was tin oldest son. The funeral will take place Thursday morning from St. Mary's Catho lic church, where mass will bo celebrated at a. m. The Interment will be In Greenwood cemetery. W. II. Lewis, lieutenant commander of tho Oregon naval battalion, arrived In the city yesterday, accompanied by Mrs. Lewis. Mr. Lewis' visit is in an olfl'lal capacity, having been ordered to Inspect tho local division by Adjutant General Tuttle. preparatory to their being ordered Into service. The division drilb-d In the armory last night and made such a cred itable showing both physically and with the precision which they executed the comrnunds that they were complimented by Lieutenant Commander Iewls. Hear Admiral Miller, of tho Albatros. stationed In Han Francisco, has been Instructed by the navy department to muster In the Oregon battalion, and orders to that effect are looked for at any time. The battalion will be mustered Into the regular service for one year. These orders are given un der the new auxiliary naval bill recently passed by congress.
