It is reported that the Colts of Hart- lord have bought the American rights to the Gifiard gun patents for S1,000, GOO. Tho gun is simply a small tube of tonghest steel, only nine inches in length, charged with liquefied car bonic acid gas, which i3 one of the most powerful propnlsives known. It is fixed to the barrel of tho riilo in such a way that when tbe trigger is pulled a drop of tho liquefied gas is forced into tho breech of tho gun behind tho bullet, where, instanta neously assuming a gaseous condition, it develops a force equal to 500 pounds pressure on tho square inch. Tho bullet is then expelled at any decree of velocity desired, for the power can bo increased or diminished by a sim ple turn of the screw. There is no explosion, no smoke, no noise, no recoil, no smell, no heat A slight fizz, like the noiso of a soda fountain, is the only sound. It sends a bullet an immense distance, is not affected by heat or damp, and is so cheap that 125 bullets can bo fired at the cost of a cent. A Loudon weekly says ihat Annie Besantis tho most eloquent woman in all England. She is not young nor pretty; the hnsn't any taste, any money nor any reputation, bnt she is better than the whole London police force or the house of lords when there 's a mob to be controlled. Her face is red, her hair is short and gray, her eyes are rad and sunken, the grace of her figure has disappeared, and she is a 1 nely, disappointed and discon tented old-young woman, but as fierce a socialist as our owu John Most Shiidrcn ry for Fitchor5 Castoria . 5t?n "slir v-a j sick, wo gavo lier Costorit.
