But, if witli a cool, soft napkin an'd a gentle and comprehensive pressure with both hands tho operator gently rubs lengthwise of the lids, it is a part of tho process that can be antici pated with dreamy pleasure, then when one is awakened from this state of blissful repose by the application of a stiff brush to their hair, (if they happen to have any) by the time the brushing aud combing is finished ono can walkout feeling fresh and bright and satisfied. But it all de pends upon how it is done. A Curions Idol. Among a collection of Burmese, In dian and Japanese curiosities, recently sold in London, was "Tho Hindu Lingam God, consisting of a chryso beryl cat's eye fixed in a topaz, and mounted in a pyramidal base studded with diamonds and precions stones. This curious relic stood 2Vf inches in height It was preserved for nioro than a thousand years in an ancient templo at Delhi, whero aets of devo tion were paid before it by women anxious to have children. The base is of solid gold, and around it aro set nino gems of charms, a diamond, ruby, saphirc, chrysobcryl cat's eye, coral pearl, hyacinthiue garnet, yellow saphpire and emerald. These gems are all rudely carved, and would no doubt by more scientific cutting be greatly improved in value. Bound the apex of this gold pyramid is a plinth set with diamonds. On the apex is a topaz 1 10-16 inches iu length, and 9-1G of an inch in depth, shaped like a horseshoe; in the center of tho horse shoo the great chrysoberyl cat's-eye stands upright. This is 13-16 of an inch in height, and dark brown in color, and shaped like a pear. An extremely mobile opalescent light crosses the length of the stone in an oblique direc tion. "When Bad Shah Bahador Shah, the last king of Delhi, was captured and exiled to tho Andaman Isles, his queen secreted this gem, and it was never seen agaiu until, being dis tressed during the mutiny, sho sold it to tho present owner. The gem brought 12,250. WISE AND OTHERWISE. Sensible and Senseless Paragraphs, Ori; iual and Selected. Tho child who loves most is the ono who obeys best.
