Boss died at his home, near Jacksonville, of heart dis ease, last Monday. General Boss was n member of the Oregon State Pioneer's association, of the Jackson county Pioneer's association, and an Indian war veteran, lie had lived in the vi cinity of Jacksonville for nearly forty years, and was one of the bravest and most valiant of Oregon's frontier de fenders, lie leaves a wife and nine children. Fourlimber men started a week ago last Saturday to go to their claims eighteen or twenty miles above Brownsville, says the Albany Herald. They came very near perishing in the snow, which was eight feet deep. Luckily they found a cabin, where they slaved over night, without food. They arrved at their camp next morn ing. Last Sunday they ventured forth again. There was still live feet of snow when they came out Last Monday morning, Vancou ver people were treated to the sight of a genuine volcano in active erup tion. A loud report was heard in the south, as of a peal of distant thunder. Later llamas were seen issuing from the iK'uk or Mt. Jefferson, which is in the Cascade range, about 80 miles southeast of Salem. Oregon. Tho llamcs were followed by clouds of black smoke, which rose high above the mountain and drifted away. He bemui suit hi the United States circuit court against Blaisdell, ' the Nelson Mining Companv and I others to restrain Blaisdell from en forcing a decree of foreclosure ob tained upon a $o0,000 note and mort gage, which Nelson alleges was un lawfully in his possession, and which he transferred to his cousin for the purpose of bringing about a forced sale of the mine in order that he might gel a title to the property cov ered by the mortgage. Nelson also seeks to lestrain their judgment, which he claims Aas obtained col lusively with the intent ot defrauding him out of a balance or S265,000 due him. The dead body of a tramp, burned and mangled, av;is found beside the narrow gauge track, near Aumsville, in Marion county, recently. A coro ner s jury, after hearing the testimony o the witnesses and viewing the re mains, returned a verdict declaring the body before them to be that of a man perhaps sixty years of age, and to them unknown, there having been nothing by which to establish identity. They thought it was the body of a tramp, and that he had met death while sleeping besido his camp fire. During the night a wind arose and a large limb of the tree under which ho was lying was Mown to the ground.
