Loxdox. Jan. 7. Great solicitude is
rciorted at Madrid touching the ex
citing rumors in connection with the
illness of the king, and political com
plications likely to ensue in the event
of his death. The best information
obtainable to-day was that the royal
patient had suffered a turn for the
worse. Something more than a sus
picion exists that the cabinet crises
bad a hidden significance. The move
ments of republican lenders are being
narrowly watched. In a word, tho
question agitating Madrid is, "Is
Spain reallv preparing for a coup de
Brazil?"'

Annie Schlueter, a German domestic,
was adjudged insane at Seattle on the
7th, and sent to the Steilacoom asylum.
Her insanity was caused by the vil
lainy of an officer ot the steamer
Kirklaml, who seduced her three
weeks ago. She brooded over the
shame so much that several days ago
her reason gave way and she became
possessed of a hallucination tha some
one was hunting to harm her. She
had to have every door aud window
locked, and a hatchet by her side to
keep people away. Before she "be
came violent she made a statement
implicating the officer of the Kirk
land. No arrest has yet been made.
