As dumb as an an oyster is an expression not unknown to fame. That jn it lies an important com mercial fact was not suspected un til recently. It has been discov ered, howeer, that the oybter maintains its health in its native element by keeping ils mouth shut. Just here there is an important difference between a man and an O ster. That is the f rebhest oyster which never open its mouth; he is the freshest man who opens his inoutn mn-t frequently. A com pany has been formed in Mary land which devotes its energies to muzzling ousters. A patent wire contrivance known as an oyster lock is used. An oybter which is Hermetically sealed will retain its tiavor lor months after leaving its briny bed. Under the new meth od of manipulating bivalves the letter "r loses all sgnificance so far as the oy-ter season is con cerned. And now arises the ques ques teon: Vo.jld ir not be well to muzlc a few nf our loquacious statesmen V They would keep better if tl ey opened their mouths lets often. The Northern Pacific railroad have their eves on the mouth of the Columbia river and are figuring on a route from the sound via Cheha- lu county down to Baker's bay in this couuty. An item from an Olympia paper conveys the intelli gence that T F. Oakes, vice presi dent ot the IS. F., J. JU. iSuckley, manager and a Mr. Bricrrr;s, had left last Saturday to look over a route down Black river and across to Baker's bay. If the company see enough to justify them they will build the road without ques tion and by reason of the above named officials personally viewing the route it would rather lead to the conclusion that the company had strong intentions of seeking an outlet to the Columbia river. CidM, nyn.Toa Co., tax. Sept, W, 1337. The following U a trao account ot what yoar S. S. S.hasdonororoarIltU8ilanghter,naaI, now four years old. When 12 months old a lump appeared on nerheel, whlcli slowly grew larger. Tho family physlciaa thought It was cansed by a piece of broken glass or needle, but failed to bring anything to light. The child became feebler all the time, seemlnx to lose the use ot her leg, and finally quit walk ing entirely. The middle finger and thumb of either hand became enlarged, the flesh be coming hard. The hip Joints became IqtoIt ed, so that when seventeen months old she could not stand, having lost the use of leg and arm. Partial curvature of the spine alio followed. The nervous system was wrecked, muscles contracted, and there wu general wasting ot flesh and muscle. At eighteen mouths of ago she was placed under the treatment of a prominent physician ot Bos ton, Mass., but at the end of ten months she had declined to such a degree that she was In a dying condition. This was In April, 1S3S We took the child away not knowing what to do. In this dreadful dilemma we were over persuaded by friends to try "one bot tle" of Swift's Sfeotic. which we did, and before It had all been taken we saw a change for the better In her symptoms. We kept It up, and have done so to this day, and will keep It up. If tho Lord wills, for many days to come, for It has brought our dying Haiel to life, to vigor, to strength and health again. The ashen hue of her cheeks has changed to a rosy tint. She Is able to walk anywhere, her languor and melancholy have passed away, and she Is now a blithe, cheerful, hap py romping child. Should you wish to In crease yoar testimonials ot proof of the virtue of S. S. S., our names and what we have said Is but a portion of what wo owe to you, should you wish to use them. Kindly yours.
