In commentinr? udod the miiin? and ripening of cream before churninrr. Hoard's Dairuman savs: Not long since a farmer's wife complained to us that she did not get the yield of butter from her cows that one of her neighbors did, and she wished to know if we could give her any light on the subject. Upon inquiry we found that the cows on both farms were native and handled abont alike. Bnt when we inquired further iuto tho manner of caring for the cream, we saw at once where the difficulty lay. It was her practice to skim her milk everv morning and put the cream in an earthen jar which was kept in the cellar. Churning was done twice a week, if her husband and the boys were not too busy. But the 'particular point where she failed was in put ting the last skimming: of cream immediately after it was taken from the milk. When we told her that shf received but little benefit from the last skimininp; thus han dled, ilie could hardly be persuad ed of the truth of our assertion. We arc convinced that this mis take is largely indulged in by the makers of farm butter. Yet they might about as well throw the last skimming to the pigs, for there is where it hnally goes in the butter milk. The last skimming should be thoroughly stirred with the old er cream, and the whole kept from six to twelve hours, depending up on the age and acidity of the older cream before churning. Possibilities In a Word. A gentleman who was away from home, was writing to his wife from the office of a hotel, when he paused h moment in his occupation and looked perplexed; then ho touched tho arm of another traveler sitting near him in a timid, deprecating way. "Excuse me, sir," he said courte ously, "but I am puzzled how to spell a word I desire to write," and he pronounced it carefully. "Don't mention it," responded the other with the heartiness of good-fellowship. I rather flatter myself that spelling is my strong point. E-x-t-a-see thero! Glad to accommodato you." "Thank you," said the gentleman who was writing the letter, "my wife is so particular, that I am ashamed of my poor spelling, as it constantly annoys her. I can tackle ordinary words easy enough, but those uplex-spring-back-action, double and twist throwers, are too much for me," and he resumed his letter with a relieved look. "Pardon me," remarked a gentle man, who had been dozing in his chair, "but I think there is a slight mistake in orthography here. I have always spelled that word e-x-t-a-c-y." "Gentlemen," said a clerical-look-ins; man coming forward, "I am a professor in a college and am posi tive that the letter x is not in tho word at all. It is spelled 'e-c-s-t-a-c-y.'" "Say I ain't you fellers all wrong ?" inquired a long-legged traveler, who had been listening earnestly to the discussion. "I teach spellin' schulo winters, out in Arkansas, and I've allusspeltthat thare word 'eggstazy.' Ef that don't spell it, what do it spell then?" The bewildered traveler concluded that perhaps it would be as well to spell the word in his own way, and so wrote to his wife that no pen could describe his e-k-s-t-a-c-e on receiving a letter from her. All of which methods of spelling the word, differ from Mr. Noah Webster's, Buclilcii's Arnica Salve. The Best Salvh in the world for Cuts, BruiseSjSores, Ulcers, SaltKhenm, Fever Sores. Ciceuo, Hamltos Co., Im, Sept, 19, 1337. The t ollowlnsls a true account of what your S. S. S. has done tor oar little danghter.Haiel. now four years old. When 12 months old lump appeared on her heel, whlch slowly grew larger. The family physician thought it was caused by a piece of broken glass or needle, but failed to bring anything to light. The child became feebler all the time, seeming to lose the use of her leg, and finally quit walk ing entirely. The middle finger and thumb of either hand became enlarged, the flesh be coming hard. The hip Joints became involv ed, so that when seventeen months old she could not stand, having lost the use of leg and arm. Partial curvature of the spine also followed. The nervous system was wrecked, muscles contracted, and thero was general wasting of flesh and muscle. At eighteen months of age she was placed under the treatment of a prominent physician of Bos ton, Mass., but at tho end of ten months she hod declined to such a degree that she was in a dying condition. This was in April, 1334 We took the child away not knowing what to do. In this dreadful dilemma we were over persuaded by friends to try "one bot tle " of Swot's Specotc, which we did, and before It had all been taken we saw a change for tho better in her symptoms. We kept it up, and have done so to this day, and will keep It np, if the Lord wills, for many days to come, for It has brought our dying rTl1-ft, to life, to vigor, to strength and health again. The ashen huo of her cheeks has changed to a rosy tint. She is able to walk anywhere, her languor and melancholy have passed away, and she Is now a blithe, cheerful, hap py romping child.
