It is your home local paper that prints your home nes, and in which your name appears from time to time. It is there your good fortunes or misfortunes are discussed and mention made of marriages, births, deaths, and a multitude of bther items, all of which goes to show that your home paper is watching your doings, day by day, and is always ready to speak a kind word for you, and in case of fortune, to rejoioe with you, or in misfortune, to offer con dolence. It also advertises your town and farm and helps to build up and further the interests of your community in a thousand dif ferent ways. Vou look in your newspaper that is printed in the eastern cities, hundreds of miles away, and youwill never see your name in print, never a kind word spoken of you iu case of misfor tune or bereavement; no mention is made of your town or its doings. You know nothing of what is go ing on in your towribhip; yea, mom if inn this, not even how your next-door neighbor is faring whether ho has been roped in by some smooth-tongued traveling sharp, been sold' out by the sheriff, become a widow, or widower, mar ried again, and so on ad libitum. Now, it is plain, if you want to keep posted and who does not . and know of the home doings, the only medium through which it comes is 3'our home paper, and it is the delight of the editor to tell you this, spoak words of encour agement, comment when in place, admonish when needful, and coun sel in all that is good and right. Not Any Immediate Danger. An elderly son of the father land, who is interesting and intel ligent in all that he says, and en joys the friendship of the pleasant faced German consul at this port, does not believe there is any im mediate danger of a fight on the continent. ".Why? he repeated the other day, "because there has been too mudh talk about it. Look back over the last 200 years on the continent, and you will notice that none of the wars has been preceded by so much oh, gabble is that what you Ameri cans call it? No, the German empire doesn't tell when it want to fight. In my opinion, if there is to be a fight the Iron Chancellor won't tell all his neighbors to get ready." ITeio York Sun. PILES CAK BE CUBED. "Wkstfield, N. Y., May 18, 1885. For thirty-two years I suffered from piles, both internal and exter nal, with all their attendant agonies, and like many another suffered from hemorrhoids. All those thirty-two years I had to .cramp myself to pay Hoctors and druggistB for stuff that was doing me little or no good. Finally I was urged br one who had had the same complaint, but had been cured by BRANDKEra's Pills, to try his c ure. -I did so, and began to improve, and for the past two years I have had no inconvenience frtfil that terrible ailment. Richard Bennett. Several years ago a young girl near Aiken, S. C, was in the act of placing a pitcher on a fence post when she was struck dead by lightning. Since then the post has remained o'n the post, safe by su perstition from the .touch pf ne groes, who believe that the arm which touches it will'be paralyzed. Storms and cyclones and earfh quaks have not displaced it, al though the post which holds it is fast crumbling with decay. vvfvyv "Would enjoy your dln WJVV ner and aro Prevented by Dyspepsia, use Acker's Dyspepsia Tablets They are a positive cure for Dyspepsia, Indigestion, Flatulency and Constipation. Dement & Co. The Distance Is Sisty Miles. A railroad to Astoria has been projected several times, but'has never assumed tangible shape. ".A short time ago it was thought that the Northern Pacific; would extend its line to the Venice of Oregon. Not long since a Portland railroad man made an estimate of the cost of building a line jfrom Kalama, W. T., along the Columbia river to Astoria, for a syndicate of English capitalists, but notjiing has ever heard of the matter The maker of the estimate holds that Astoria will eventually have railroad con nection with the ontside world via Kalama. This route has not been surveyed, but the distance is be lieved to be about 62 miles against 100 to 110 miles from Forest Grove to Astoria.
