The Order Denounces Him as an Ene-' my to Labor. j . j T -.i.i. r T7n1.11 K lVMi.,n uurucu vjt. xxaaucij, 111c iuuiiwi and receptive and retentive treas urer of the Red International on this coast, who went to Denver to edit Buchanan's Labor Enquirer after he had worked the labor movement in this city for about all it could be worth to him, is in hot water there. The Buchanan of the Labor Enquirer is the man who secured the favor of the Knights of Labor and was in trusted with the organization of the railroad employes thronghout the southwest. His work was ef fective in its way and was followed by the great and disastrous rail road strike of last year. He visited this city and in an address at Piatt's Hall aid, among other things: "I am willing to pledge myself, if the government does not in five years give me my rights, to take them or die in the tranches fighting for them." Aftor Buchanan was gone Has kell used to harangue crowds of woikingmen in a similar strain, and predicted a revolution in 1889, but finally went to Denver to edit Buchanan's paper. Master "Workman Powdetly and the conservative members who have controlled the Knights of Labor, have incurred the enmitv of thg anarchists and firebrands in the order by denouncing anarchist teaohincrs, and Haskell in Bu chanan's paper has attacked Pow derly, but the Denver -Knights of Labor favor law and order, and support Powderly. On the iSth of this month local assembly 3,2lSj composed of employes of the Union Pacific railroad, passed a series of lesolutions denouncing and repudiating Haskell and the Labor Enquirer, and 'setting forth the following, among other senti ments: "The Labor Enquirer has for a long time been teeming with libelQus.- insinuations and charges against the general officer?, especially our general master work man.and the evident intent has been to prostitute ourorderanddriveont the true members and make tne ol der the home of anat cliy and anai ch ist teachings. ' lis erii! has proven himself to be a disrepu table falsifier, unwotthv to ' called a Knight of Labor. - ' "We feel it our duty to our selves and our cause to call a halt to this and to place our order in its true light before the world. n "ye repudiate the La bor Enquirer us, in no way the organ or mouthpiece of the Knights of Labpr. :- We request the local assembly of which the editor of the Labor En quirer is a member to expel him from the Order of the Knights of Labor." Similar resolutions were passed by local assembly 3,714, and the executive board of District Assem bly S2 indorsed them. The efforts of Haskell and his socialistic and anarchistic followers to get control of the Knights of Labor on this coast were a dismal failure. The sentiment in lavor of Powderly and law ami order is overwhelming. Haskell boasted a year ago that the International had absolute control of the federation of trades, but a storm was stirred up-among the bona fide working people of the coast which nearly destroyed the federation and re sulted in driving out those of the Internationalists who did not smother their sentiments and pro fess a love of law. S. E. Chron icle, 23. 9 Clear the Way Without loss of time, when the intestinal canal is hlocked up by reason of constipa tion, chronic or temporary. It should be borne in mind that thU aliment Ls prone to become lasting and obstinate, and breed other and worse complaints, Hosteller's Stomach Bitters is the precise remedy to re move the obstruction effectually, but with out drenching or weakening the blockaded bowels, a consenuence always to be annre- hended from the use of violent laxatives, which are among the most pernicious of the cheap nostnniH-swaiiowea Dy uie creuuious and misinformed. The fiat ot experience, and of the medical fraternity, sanctions the claims of this standard aperient. Not only as a source of relief and permanent regular ity to the bowels, liver and.stomach. but as a means of remedying and preventing kid ney and bladder troubles, and fever and ague, it is without a peer. The above beautiful translation of tne Indian name "Idaho,", has been so long accepted by the in- habitants of that province, as the true and fitlyT spoken one, that we have serious doubts Of ihoif ever discarding it for the one now offered by the "poet rif the Sier ras." Following we give his defi nition, together with his failure as a town builder: "Idaho. This Indian name, like all others, has its accent on the second syllable. It is pro nounced I-(?ai-ho! Literally it means 'where the light is.' A larger and more complete trans lation would be, 'where the light first rests on the mountain at sunrise.' If you care to look on the map, 3'ou will find the name of my town there. But it is on the map only ; for soon after I had established my express office and the boys had pitched their tents and cabins around me this was when the Idaho mines were first discovered there came a man, one Dr. Ferbut, along, who had a daughter. Her name was Flor ence. And as he could not get a lot for his drujr store to suit, he went a half a mile further on with his daughter and there sat down. Mv town disappeared from history in less than half a vear. The min ers gathered around the old man and his daughter. They named their town Florence, and itbecatue the capital of Idaho."
