The Czar Frightened.
New York, March 16. The
Star's London cablegram says: In
consequence of the plot to assas
sinate the czar, the imperial palace
has been placed under charge of
secret police. Attendants of the
imperial family are under strict
surveillance, and guards consisting
of picked men are replaced at
outer entrances, in corridors and
at approaches to the imperial
apartments, and the lines of sen
tries are doubled. Specials repre
sent that great excitement exists
throughout Russia. A large num
ber of domiciliary visits were mado
to private residences of government
officers and merchants and exten
sive seizures of documents effected.
Evidence is accumulating that the
conspiracy is moro dangerous than
ever discovered in Russia before.
Among the documents of the stu
dents on whose persons bombs
were found, was one.of them de
claring that a reolutionary procla
mation would shortly be issued
and calling on the people to rise
in defense of their liberty and es
tablish a government based on the
will of the nation. In Vienna it
is the general opinion that the
discovery of the plot has immense
ly strengthened the war party.
An interesting question now is:
Did lien. Owen "ring in" on the
California member of congress a
lot of lofty rim rock and high lava
lulls in Oregn for swamp lands?
It has always been suspected that
in Hen. there were vast possibili
ties of deception. The high Java
hills may not be worth much to
the United Slates, and they are
likely to be worth as little to the
man to whom Hen. sold them as
swamp land; but the transaction
shows at least that Hen is an orig
inal "operator." lie follows no
beaten track of fraud. That he
scorns. He is one of those who,
if they .commit oldest sins, will do
so in newest kinds of ways, so as
to save appearance of honor and
respectability. Oregonian
General Crook declares that the
Indians should have the ballot to
use instead of the bullet.
Disorders which Affect the Kidneys
Are among the most formidable known. D'
abete, Bright's disease, gravel, and other
complaints of the urinary oigans, aie i.ot
ordinarily cured in seveio case.1', but they
maybe averted by timely medication, a
useful stimulant of the urinary glands has
ever been found In Hostetter's Stomach
Bitters, a medicine which not only affords
the requisite stimulus when they become
inactive, but increases their vigor and so
cretlve power. By incicasiug the activity
of the kidneys and bladder, this medicine
lias the additional effect ot expelling from
the blood Impurities which it is tho peculiar
office of those organs to eliminate and pass
on. me miters is also a nunner ana
strengthener of ihe bowels, an Invlgoratit of
the stomach, and a matchless remedy for
biliousness and fever and ague. It counter
acts a tendency to premature decay, and
sustains and comforts the aged and lnllrm.

Should Sing "Yankee Doodle.'
Xew York, March, 1G. The
Commercial Advertiser, in an ed
itorial to show w.hat it calls an
alarming increase of foreign in
fluence which threatens to over
throw the republic, says it is time
for Americans to awake to the
danger and adopt measures for its
removal. It is time to sing "Yan
kee Doodle" and not be ashamed
of singing it. It is time to rebuke
and retire those politicians whose
chief endeavor is to placate the
foreign element, by which we do
not mean those foreigners who in
good faith become Americans, bat
those whojsimply come to America
to be foreigners still in their ideas
and language and aspirations.
Perhaps it is time to remodel our
