The Toi tec history declares that in its nation there at one time appeared a white and bearded man who was dressed in a long robe, adorned with crosses, and who preached to the people a new religion, inculcating love to labor, respect toward what was divine, and the practice of many other virtues. She has a magnificent home on Common wealth avenue, and possesses an in come of about $12,000 a year. She has always taken a great interest in sanitary matters, and since the news papers began their crusade against filthy tenements she has been run ning tenement houses in the worst parts, of the city. The places were about to be vacated by the Board of Health on account of their unhealthy condition, when airs. Lincoln rented them, made needed repairs and im provements, and let the apartments to respectable poor people. "While in one sense the work is a benevo lence, she conducts her houses on strict business principles, visiting them frequently and making all the rent collections herself. Thus far she has come out with a fair profit. The scheme is now a hobby with her, and she is bargaining for the notori ous "Crystal Palace," a very ancient and filthy barracks in the South Cove, where thieves, iioouiums ana debauches make their headquarters. J. H. D. GRAY, Agent. Probably the most -wonderful time piece ever heard of is a clock de scribed by a Ilindoo rajah as belong ing to a" native princess of Upper India. In front of the clock's disk was a gong, swung upon poles, and near it was a pile of artificial limbs. The pile was made of the full num ber of parts for twelve perfect bodies, but all lay heaped together in seem ing confusion. "Whenever the hands of the clock indicate the hour of 1, out from the nile crawled iust the number of parts to form the frame of one man, part joining itself to part with quick metalic click; and, when completed, the figure sprang up, seized a small mallet, and, walking to the gong, struck one the lirst hour. When 1 o'clock came, two men rose and did likewise; and so through all the hours of the day, the number of hours, till at noon and midnight, the entire group sprang up, and, march ing to the gong, struck one after another, each his blow, making twelve in all. and then fell to pieces again. Itemi Nadeau, of Los Angeles county, the largest vine planter in California, has set out about 100,000 vines this season, and is waiting for more rain to increase the numbe.r. He and his sons have now between three and four million vines, and arc the largest grape growers in the world. A railroad strike A collision. Cure For Piles. Piles are frequently preceded by a sense of weight in the back, loins and lower part of the abdomen, causing tne patient to suppose lie has some clTcction of the kidneys or neighboring organs. At times, symptoms of indigestion are present, flatulency, uneasiness of the stomach, etc. A moisture like perspir ation, producing a very disagreeable itching, after getting warm, is a com mon attendant. Blind, Bleeding and Itching Piles yield at once to the appli cation of Dr. Bosanko's Tile remedy, which acts directly upon the parts ef fected, absorbing the Tumors, allaying the intense'itching, and effecting a per manent cure.
