An Intei-estins Eyent in Steamboating. SroKANEFALTs,3XaY 0 The steam er Kootenai has made its initial trip from the littlo dalles to the crossing of the Canadian Pacific. The steam er started Tuesday evening, April 28, reaching Fanvell at 7 o'clock r. m. MayL Fall running time, thirty hours. Most of the time on the way up was consumed searching for a channel, lining over rapids and re maining tied up over night. On the return trip the steamer left Farwell at noon on Saturday, May 2, and reached the little dalles at 11 a. ir. Sunday, May 3, running the distance in eleven hours. The craft was load ed up at once, and started northward Mondav morning. The stage of wa ter in the Columbia is still low. The weather i3 cold and snow still remains piled up on the river banks. When the river fills up the run up stream can be made on better time. The Kootenai is now to make regular trips, but it will not carry passengers or general merchandise at present, at tending strictly to moving the large amount of freight intended to fill the contract of H. M McCartney & Co. with the Canadian Pacific. There are now in the neighborhood of 1300 tons at the little dalles awaiting ship ment. Satjkzji, May G. Lord "Wblseley is slightly indisposed.
