Admiral Courbet says: We have at
tacked tho Chinese squadron and
gained a complete victory. Another
dispatch says tho French fleet suc

Xiugo river on Saturday last.
SrRiKoriELD, Feb. 18.- The legisla
ture mot in joint session at noon for
the purpose of voting for United
Stales senator. Two hundred and
two members wero present, and two
absent ono Democrat and one Re
publican. On the first ballot called
Logan had 101, the full Republican
strength present; Morjison 94, E. M.
Haines 4, scattering 3-no election.
Only one ballot was taken.
