Every farmer and merchant in east

mado passable for river vessels. Every
one desire3 to have the navigation of
this natural waterway open to the
public, but those who are connected
with railroad monopolies that charge
"all the traffic will bear" and more,
for transporting products of eastern
Hundreds of thousands of dollars
have been appropriated in the last
eight years far beyond what the
actual cost of the entiro work would
be, estimated by private parties, if
thrown open to contractors' bids.
Eight years have been devoted to kill
ing time and expending the great
amount of money on the least amount
of work possible. Yet next to noth
ing is done or has been done. At
present, under the able (?) supervis
ion ot Chief Engineer Young, the
river is being, as slowly as possible,
clearcd-of bowlders on the edge of
the water, where they might just as
well remain for all the difference they
will ever niako m the navigation of
tho stream. A very short piece of
canal remains to bo finished of the
very short piece commenced with.
But a few weeks work in the middle
of the channel and the Columbia
could bo opened to navigation to The
Dalles. But at present the labor and
the amount performed is the laugh
ing stock of every one for miles
around, and at the present rato of
progress the Columbia river will not
comneto with the Northern Pacific
railroad or the O. B. &N. Co., until the
celebr ttion of the next national cen
tennial. Oregon Vidette.
PILES! PILES! PILES!
A SURE CORE FOUND AT LAST!
NO OHE NEED SUFFER.
A sure cure for Blind, Bleeding
Itching and Ulcerated Piles has been
discovered by Dr. llhams (an Indi
an Remedy,) called Dr. "William's In
dian Pile Ointment. A singlo box has
cured the worst chronic cases o 25
or 30 years standing. No one need
suffer live minutes after applying this
wonderful soothing medicine. Lotions
instruments and electuaries do more
harm than good. William's Indian
Pile Ointment absorbs the tumors,
allays the intense itching, (particular
ly at night after getting warm in bed,)
acts as a poultice, gives instant relief,
and is prepared only for Piles, itching
of tho private parts, and for nothing
Bead what the Hon. J. 1M. Coffinber
ry of Cleveland says about Dr. "Wil
liam's Indian Pile Ointment: I have
used scores ot Pile Cures, and it af
fords me pleasure to say that I have
nevcr found anything which gave
such immediate and permanent relief
as Dr. "William's Indian Ointment.
Hon. Judge AY. P. Coons, Maysville,
Ky., says: I have suffered for years
with itching piles, and have used
many remedies. I have used Dr. "Wil
liam's Indian Pilo Ointment and been
cured while evcrv other remedv has
failed." For sale by all druggists and
mailed on receipt of price, $1.00.
