Eaton, president of (he civil service comniit&loii, was to-day asked by a rejrc-.cntitivtj of the assiciated p-en for ItjB views in regard to Gov ernor Cleveland's letter, published this morning. Eaton, in reply, ex pressed himself as follews: It would be unpardonable pre sumption in me to assume to speak for Governor Cleveland, but I may h X ieily for myself. I regard the l?t'ir . deliberate, significant and r.i utterance of a man who com- t ' end j tlie situation, and has the c ui.ige of his convictions and duties. It is a platform on the subject to which it relates. The views of the letter are those common to all true statesmen of both parties. The views aro those most rapidly growiugin the hearts of the people. The policy disclosed in the letter is that by which alone a party can retain its power in this country. It shows plainly that we are to have no mixed cabinet, and no timid or compromis ing policy, but a strong, positive, honest, courageous and absolutely Democratic administration. It will be one in broad contrast with the last Democratic administration, which wa weak, evasive and scorn ful of a noble and growing sentiment ThN Year's Failure. San Fb wcisco, Dec 30.
