Mr. Hendricks could yank it up an

The valuable discovery has been
made that a little annato put in but

another substance which, if put in
butter, would give it tho same color,
but nobody seems to think of using
it. It is cream.
The Texas papers intimates that
imported Mexican votes can be bought

Es-Sevatob He'B7 G. Davis, of
West Virginia, makes some very sen
sible remarks concerning the inten
tions of the southern Democracy,
which he sas intends to show the
north that it is not a set of cutthroats
or a simple herd of office-seekers. If
Mr. Hendricks wonld talk matters
over with the "West Virginian and fill
himself with a similar idea he would
not say so many silly things in his
round of speech-miking.
If there is any benefit in being a
state, Oregon is lucky in getting in
when she did a quarter of a century
ago. Nowadays especially since she
. gives Republican majorities she
would have no more show of getting
in,than Dakota, with twice Oregon's
population, or Washington, wjich is
well up to us in wealth and inhabi

such a fugs about? A man or a com

is under les expense.
Kepbe3ektative Geobqe has pre

Snake riverj. The river and harbor
committee have adopted the rule iu
preparing the next river and h rb-r

that is now in operation.
The Ohio custom of pardoning one
convict on Thanksgiving day is u
-.vTwy-yritt fc.t i Koaliaeat, and as
such is likely to meet the commenda
tion of sentimental people. But we
gravely doubt the wisdom of mixing
sentiment with such matters. One
conviot pardoned may not-make much
difference, but if -one why not two?
If justice demand the punishment
of criminals sentiment should not
work their release. There is ample
room for Ihe satisfaction of the char
itable dts'rei that rise with the
Thanksgiving daj'd sun. There are
poor, honest, law-abiding people
enough to absorb all the charity that
this world is overburdened with.
