Calamity.
On an incomincr Yandalia train was
a family of five a fat, good-nalnred
man, ms wife, a pretty but nervous
lady, and, gracious "knows, 'twas
enough to make her nervous, the
trouble she had with their three chil
dren. The eldest, a boy of six, mashed
hishand by putting a window down
on it A little later the three-year-old
at a sudden jerk of the train," turned
a somersault, bruising and gashinghis
head. Then the half-year old baby
upset the alcohol lamp'from the win
dow sill, which frightened the mother
nearly into hysterics, which was a
signal for all the children to set up in
a chorus. But during tho next five
minutes, when that half-distracted
woman was trying to stop the music,
that fat man, from the seat back of
her, looked on with never an effort
he was really charming in his com
placency. "When quiet reigned again the wife
said, with a sigh: "I do know I have
more trouble than anv woman on
earth."
"Oh, no, my dear; don't say that,"
answered Benedict, not moving his
eyes from his paper. "I do say it,''
she replied more stoutly. "There's
no calamity could befall a woman
which I have no't suffered." "Oh, no,
my dear; not so bad as that. For in
stance, you arc not a widow," he an
swered, sweetly. She held her breatli
two seconds and then retorted and
it made the Sentinel man laugh, the

An Awful Photographic Album.
Oh, yes, I said; I always enjoyed
looking at photographs. Photographs
and autographs 1 just doted on.
I am a man accustomed to family
photograph albnms. You can't fool
me on them. I have sat up with
them from Halifax to Denver and I
know them by name and sight. Pa
and ma and that's grandpa and that's
grand ma, and here's Undo George,
and this is an aunt of pa's, she's very
wealthy and has no children and pa
is her favorite nephew; and this is a
young lady I went to school with, and
this is his brother Henry, and this is
his cousin Sue, and this is Aunt Hat
tie's baby, and this is a young man
Henry went to school with, and do
yon know who this is? Ah, yon, know
I won't listen to another word. It
ain't a bit like me, anyhow; it's hor
rid, and this is pa's clerk, and this is
te. he, he a young man no, I
won't tell you his name; he lives at
Kickapoo, anc this is oh, my son,
you can't strand me on photograph
albums. I know just where the fami
ly ends and the strangers file in.
