Sherman's farewell address to the West Point graduates, on the 12th, was both humorous and pathetic. "In looking at this fine graduating class, even from the distance," he said, and the gradu ates pricked their ears, expecting a compliment, "you look exactly like the class of last year, and the one before that, and the one of every year since the class I gradu ated in." (Laughter.) "I can see myself and my old classmates al most in your features. I can see old Joe Blacksterj-otiSSo, a groat big stout fellow from Ohio, oix feet, five inches in his stocking, a yard across his shoulders, weigh ing 200 pounds, with hands hard with toil on his fathers farm. He now lies buried in the sands of Florida. I can see Byron P. Til den, a member of my class. He came from the best schools of Boston and at once led t(F the class. "We were all afraid of him. He knew too much. He had an honorable record and went with troops to Mexico, then wanted to get rich, committed robbery, was condemned for murder, a scaffold was erected to hand him on. Just n the nick of time a treaty was signed and he escaped. He lost his commission and went back to Boston, found plenty of lawyers to whitewash him. Tilden died and has a cost ly monument I believe. When these men approach the gates one will stand ajar but the other, f think, will be closed. 1 love ev ery cadet that looks like Blackster, even to this dav. I love to see you strong and manly. If you don't love your positions, go away quietly. You, one and all, ma' become heroes as others have be fore you. I beg you one and all to look upon me kindly, for this may be the last time I shall ever come to West Point, at any rate in an official .ca pacity. In two short months I shall cheerfully and williugly re sign my commission. I will surely come back from time to time if I can. Good bye, one and all." A correspondent says, "I have heard Sherman .speak on a great many occasions, but in none saw him so . deeply affected as to-day when he closed his official career at West Point. Nearly every lady in the assemblage was in tears, and halE the cadets were trying to conceal their faces. Myl mother has been a sufferer with inflammatory rheumatism for the ast fifteen, years, -writes Mr. J. J. SchubertjKankakee, 111., in which time she nas tried numer ous remedies.without relief. At last her limbsbecame so swollen that she coulnot go about, and I gave up all, hope of her recovery. As a final resort; I tried St. Jacobs Oil.
