For lame Back, Side or ChestiuseJ Fer sale by-W. E.Deaeafc. A Big Swindle The? business of tbe Olympia. land office still, continues to en-" gage the full time of the clerical force. Immense tracts of land are entered dally, and & great deal of it is falling into the hands of land nigs and monopolists. The timber land law 4s practically a farce. The government proposes to sell to actual settlers land unGt for cultivation and commercial in character, at the minimum price per acre for a quarter section.: The oath of the applicant prescribes, that it shall be taken" for' his own use, and. that he has. not con tracted, directly 5r indirectly, for transfer of title to anybody. Still scores of men admit that they have sold their "timber right," the standing price being $1001 It is not unfrequent for those inter ested in the objects of the timber "cruisers" to approach citizens with a proposition to sell their birthright for the proffered mess of pottage $100. Those who are here, or may be sent here, to pro tect the interests of the govern ment seem to be oblivious of this palpable swindle, and it is even hinted that some whose duty it is to investigate such matters, find the safest course to be to drift with the current rather than array money, office and political power against themselres. But after the whisky ring and the postal ring, it is not surprising that we should hare a land ring. The great mis fortune is, that in the no distant future we will find actual settlers debarred from the. privilege of ob taining homes, from the rapacious greed of speculators and the dis position of the agents of the gov ernment to allow the grab to be made. The law, if properly exe cuted, would seem to afford suffi cient safeguards. Let the blame rest where it properly belongs. It cannot be said that St. Ja cobs Oil, tho Great German Rem edy, is ever demonstrative ovtr a case of rheumatism, quietly he performs his mission, leaving the relieved one to tell of its result. Mr. Carl Siegmund, cor. Congress and "Washington sts., Ypstlanti, Michigan, writes: My daughter had suffered from rheumatism to such an extent that it crippled her, rendering her unable to walk at all. We consulted many phy sicians and used all kinds of med icines, but in vain. Aj.last we de cided to try the 2Jacobs Oil, and this wonderful ftfertdy effected the happiest resuite? It cured my daughter and th?M ttle girl is now well and strong Such facts, plain and incontrovertible, are al ways in order and are?convincing; and it gives us no small pleasure to add our endorsentewt of the ar ticle which has accoSifiished such results. ffe NOTICE OF CHIEKOF POLICE.
