The way to make a man temperate is to kiii the desire forthose dreadful artificial stimulants that car ry so many bright intellects to premature graves, and desolation, strife and un happiness into so many families. Agricultural Implements, Sewing machines, Paints and Oils, Greeris, ct, Sacramento Salmon. Reports of the salmon catch on the Sacramento riverjas interpreted by the mercantile houses which handle the product of that section, are not encouraging. Not only has the catch been unusually light, but such as it is no important transactions in it have taken place for upward of five weeks. In a recent conversation with a promi nent broker, he stated to an Ore- gonian correspondent that it is fiustomarv for the canners and those representing their interests to place the average catch at small figures, with a view of influencing the tone of the market. In his opinion a review of the situation up to the present time will show a falling off in the catch of the Sac ramento river at fully one-third from that o the corresponding pe riod last year. Buyers and sellers are apart at present figures and little is done, either for export or local consumption. This refers al most exclusively to Sacramento brands. It is learned from other sources that the small run of fish there has been brought to' the at tention of the state board of fish commissioners, in its official capac ity. Tt is stated that some of the members are prominently identi fied with the canning interests, with the result that considerable opposition has been created in the board. One of the members, who resides in San Francisco, is mainly interested in the cultivation and distribution of trout and other species of fish sought for by anglers and sportsmen, while a majority of the board, who are residents of the interior, devote their attention almost exclusively to the propagation of salmon. A stir was created in certain circles by the announcement that the whole amount of the. appro priation by the state would be ex pended in the furtherance of salmon interests only. The action taken by the commission in refer ence to the matter is that orders have been given for the hatching of some 2,000,000 salmon, which will be placed in the waters of the Sacramento river. An exceedingly bad attack of rheumatism -afflicting Mr, J. Lev ett, G7 Market St., Lynn, Mass., was cured by fct. Jacobs Oil. He had the disease in his right arm and shoulder, which became per fectly helpless after being af fected a few hours, llis pain was so great that he could not rest in comfort or attend to business with any degree of satisfaction. After enduring this sort of thing for some time, he purchased a bottle of the Great German Remedy and began to apply it. He did not mince matters at all, but just used the Oil for all it was worth. Af ter pursuing this mode of treat ment for three days the pain was banished and his father was in a perfectly healthy condition. He has never since felt any rheumatic pain and trusts he never will.
