Fremont St., Baltimore During the war I was in jured in the stomach by a piece of a shell, and have suffered from it ever since. I suffered fearfully from indigestion, and for over two years could not eat solid food and for a large portion of the time wasunableto retain even liquid nourishment. I tried Brown's Iron Bitters and no w after taking two bottles I am able to get up and go around and am rapidly improving. G. Decker. The bridge across the "VYillam ette river, referred to by Mr. Vil lard in his speech at New Market theater "Wednesday, will be 1,1SG leet long, not including the trestle approaches, and the grade will be sixteen feet above high water mark. It will have two tracks and will be as substantial as any structure of. the kind in tho Uni ted States. There will be three spans, each 2G4 feet long, one east and two west of the draw span, which will be 394- feet long. This gives a clear space of 197 feet on either side of the pivotal pier. The east end of the bridge will be at the upper part of the terminal grounds in Albina and a few hund red feet below the old warehouse. The Portland end will be at the foot of Sixteenth street, or to be more particular, at tfee point where Sixteenth street would intersect the rivor it extended to thu hore. norinrs are now hfisur made to determine the exact natuie of the foundation to be put in. Those borings are carried to the depth of eighty feet below the riwr bed. Oreionian. Mrs. Du!ton,'&n aent of the Freedrnan's Aid society cf the Methodists, says that the people of the north, and even those who have made visits to the south, are entirely ignorant of the secluded regions away from the cities and railroads amonr the swamns and I in the mountains. There are com-1 munities of negrops, in places like tho Sea Islands, who are without religion or secular wlioliy etluca tion. and are degenerating in barbarism and vice; and there are neighborhoods in which the poor whites have by no means saved themselves from poverty, ignor ance and degradation. Progress at the south is confined to popu lous points. A mighty hard-working set of men are Uncle Sam's letter car riers who are liable to contract rheumatism because of the con stant exposure to which they are subjected. Calling at the post office the reporter had a pleasant conversation with Mr. J. H. Mat tern, one of the most popular and clever letter-carriers in Indianap olis. Mr.Mattern said that, while in the army during the civil war, he sprained one of his ankles, which was always worse in the spring during the period of the I rapid changes in the weather. He did not find much relief from the several remedies he applied. But two 3'ears ago he hit upon St. Ja cobs Oil, and experienced wonder ful relief from its use. Several applications of the Great German Remedy relieved him entirely. The reporter talked with others among the letter-carriers and found that the Great German IiemcdjT was popular in the post oflice. They use it for sore feet, rheumatism, etc., and praise it highly Indianapolis (Tnd.)Neic3. Hope for DrunUauN.
