Address 1 UV VILTA1C IELT CI.. MARSHALL, MICH. Oklahoma. There is a restless desire in the west, particular!' in Missouri and Arkansas, for the opening of In dian Territory (Oklahoma) to set' tlement, and the Republican is constantly receiving letters inquir ing what stands in the way of opening this territory as others are opened. As a general answer to these inquiries ve state that In dian Territory, or Oklahoma as it is sometimes called, though in one sense a part of the national do main, is not thi property of the government, like Dakota and Mon tana; and the lauds in it are not disposable by it, like the lands of other territories. The whole re gion was given to the live Indian tribes, Creeks, Choctaws, Chero kee?, Chicasaws and Scminoles, by formal treaty, when they were re moved from Georgia. Florida, and other southern states, nearly fifty years ago. The government can not, without the consent 01 the tribes, permit white settlers to move into tho territory and occu py its lands, and this consent has never been jriven. It is hoped that the tribes will, at no distant day, agree to apportion the lands which they now hold in common, to their members in tracts of jGO acres each, and permit the remain der to be sold to white immigrants and some such arrangement as this will undobtcdly have to be made in the end; but until it shall be made the government is bound by treaty to exclude white settlers. The railroads have been granted the right of wav through the terri tory, but they do not .own an lands in it. JSt. Xouis ' Jlejmbli- can. Mr. A. Nathans, one of the managers of Coup's Show, lias been prominently identified with the circus business for many years, and has had control of many of the most celebrated circus compa nies in the United States. He contracted severe rheumatism from constant exposure, and St. Jacobs Oil relieved his rheumatic pains when nothing else, not even the best medical treatment, did him any good worth mentioning. lie is enthusiastic in his praise of the Oil, and thinks it is an excellent thing for circus organizations to take with them traveling.
