CO gto gnotxj srtoxfonu ASTORIA, OREGON: THURSDAY. MARCH 15, 18S3 In all the city churches and in churches in towns and villages along tjic Canadian Pacific rail way line, recenty, pastors preached on Sunday observance, and strongly censured the Canadian Pacific for running trains on Sun day, and urced the necessity of securing legislation to prevent its continuance. The Rev. Mr. Fortin, of St. Paul, said: "Better ride to heaven in a Red River ox cart than to go to hell in a palace sleeper." Many railway officials indignantly left the edifice. An Austin journalist put in an appearance at the inaugural ball. There was a mixed mob there, it is true, but the journalist's coat was so shabby that one of the com mittee whispered in his car, "Haven't you got another coat at home?" "Yes, I have got another one." "Why didn't you put it on?" "Because it ain't near as good as this one.' "When a man leaves a town and owes two dollars and fifty cents, we hear about it all over the coun try, but when a man unexpectedly returns and quietly goes around to his creditors and says: "when I left, I owed you a few hundred dollars, now make out your bill and 1 will pay you," then there is nothing said, not a word. 1'. W. Watchman. Professor C. A. Young, of Princeton, is authority for the statement that but G,000 staii are visible to the naked eye in this latitude. "With an opera glass 300,000 may be seen, and with the most powerful telescope about 50,000,000. Astronomers have located and mapped G00,000 stars.
