"W .-"i CI gfe gilifoj &SJi8XZfflU ASTORIA, OHEGOX: THURSDAY. ....MAliCH 8, 1883 Heady Made Houses. Illustrative of the manner this industry is progressing, it is men tioned in the London, Ont., Adver tiser that the Truaxes planing mills at "Walkcrtown, are turning out material for ready made houses at a rapid rate. Orders for a whole row of houses can be filled in a few days, and it is not uncommon to see an entire street for Brandon or a block lor Winnipeg sent out; on a train twenty or thirty days after the order has been received. During the past season Messrs. Truax shipped 219 enrs of knock down house material to the north west. One of tiie partners in die Goncorn accompanies each train, and superintends tiie putting up of tho houses. Some houses arc ordered b telegraph in this fash fash eon: ''"What can you furnish me a tidy cottage for, 22x40 feet, with bay window and veranda?" Next spring the enthusiastic house builders expect to receive orders for ontire villages, something after this style: "What is -our lowest figure for five stores, two wagon1 and two blacksmith shops, one Methodist and one Presbyterian church, twenty-five cottages, a town hall, and a lock-up, to be de livered on or before July 1st?" Orders have been received for twenty-one bouses to be put up in Brandon next spring. The freight rate on these houses from Walkerton to Chicago is $40 a car; from Chicago to Minneapolis 20 a car. The charge the bal ance of the way is enormous, ow ing to the lack of competition, the cost of a medium car through from the start to Winnipeg being S3C1. Mr. Isaac Powell, the owner of the Walnut street Livery Stables, Lancaster, Pa., writes: 1 used St. Jacobs Oil on a horse that was badly galled; it removed the sore ness and healed more rapidly than any preparation I ever saw. For tremuiousness, wakefulness, dizziness, and lack of energy, a most valuable remedy is Brown's Iron Bit ters.
