surprises us is that he expresses a
willingness to leave. There rould

missionary effort where ho is now.
Yesterday morning the river was
tilled clear across the channel with
masses of thick ice. and in the space
between O'Brien's hotel and Devlin's
cannery the drift had piled upon the
shore to the depth of two or three
feet. At high water yesterday after
noon the rh'cr piesented a beautiful
-ight, the water was as smooth as
.dass, and of a deep blue color; the
white masses of ice drifting by in the
lazzling snnhght, and the sea fowl
perched on hummocks made a pano
rama of great beauty.
