Men's, Youths' and Boys' If E W S T O UPT STOCK ASTORIA, OREGON: m m-m -wjl3. j FRIDAY OCTOBER 20, 1S82 3RL E I f$ ft i$jf iS trrnwBGV3 .Editor Forty Times nnd Out. Tue Oregon Legislature ad journs at ten o'clock to-night, and has a proud record. 1c has been wrestling for two score daj-s with the question of who shall be Senator Grovers sucessor, and below is the result as far as heard frem: "Saleu, Oct,9, 7 p. m. Every thing points to a deadlock. There has been a tremendous amount of work, and the same result as when the devil sheared the hog. In joint convention to-daj", Mitchell got thirty-seven votes; Shattuck, twenty-eight; B. Herman, twenty one; Burnett, two; Failing, one; Richard "Williams, one. There was but one ballot taken, and there will be, in all probability, but one taken to-morrow. Legis lature adjourns to-morrow night." At present we can see nothing but the ridiculous side of the situation. The effect of all the bitter crimination and recrimina tion, the personalities and bad feeling that have been produced since the legislature met, has been to sow seed that will blossom and bear bitter fruit to some of the actors in the political future. A Washington despatch says that the disclosures of the last few days have made borne things in tho star route matters clear, while there has been shown much bad management on the part of the prosecution.
